Wiring/Sensor Install - SRM SI

I have mine mounted on the downtube. It's big/wide enough that the position is just about perfect.

Interesting. My SystemSix is a bit fat in that area, but might be able to work. Are you concerning about a dropped chain? Perhaps an easy way to spend $80 for a new wiring kit. Do you use a ThirdEye or anything?

Yep, mine is on a S6 also.
No worries about dropping the chain but I bet it'd probably just knock the sensor off. No chain keeper, just a well adjusted front D and no drops so far.

Just buy a "Deda Dog fang" - or something simular - I think they are made under different brands - they aren't that expensive...

run the wiring under the down tube, up around the non-drive side of head tube (that way the slack sits directly in front of head tube, if done the other side, the slack will sit out to the right side. you need enough slack to turn 'lock to lock'😉, up the front brake cable. People ask me all the time if my SRM is 'wireless'. i can send pics later if you want.

I did a search and couldn't find it. Thanks for the link.

I "might" have trouble with the SystemSix as it doesn't appear the cable guides have a screw, rather a lil nub w/o tension. But, I could probably epoxy the piece directly to the BB.

I've been starring at my bike for hours thinking of crazy ways to mount it. I did drop the $50 to buy the part, but not sure I'll use it.

if you look at the pics of my bike, (madone) it has a metal disc, sandwiched between the BB and BB shell. I dont' know if your bike came with it. It comes standard on all the carbon treks to keep the chain from digging into the carbon, should it fall off. I would think that could be a place to mount a bracket.

BikeinMN up top has his sensor on the seatstay (a pix would be sweet!), which may be the only hope. Perhaps I could buy a ThirdEye and fabricate some holder...to combi a chain drop prevention tool/SRM sensor holder. Thoughts?

i'd say you are on to somthing with drilling and tapping the BB shell. I wouldn't think twice about the saftey of it either. I've seen some pro bikes recently on the net that had holes drilled into the top tube to run SRM wires. I would say drill it and tap it, making sure to get all the way into the aluminum shell. Then drill out the cable guide, and measure the total depth with it all roughly assemblied, so that you can get a bolt that will get full thread engagement. (important: make sure everything is clean, and use loctite when you do final assembly) You'll need to pull the crank and BB out to do that.

i would avoid attaching anything to the F der mount, only because, if you do drop a chain, it will hit the mount/sensor and knock it off, or worse break the wire. Your playing with a $70 harness, plus the only 2 times i've ever dropped a chain in the last 2 years was in a race. Thats the worst time for it to happen.

Figured I'd post this for the other SystemSix folks.

If your bike came with the SRM installed, you most likely have a different spindle which offsets the crank toward to the drive side. This allows for SLIGHTLY more clearance for the chainstay/powermeter. I had no clue there was as different spindle made for SRM SI.

If your bike came with the SRM in the box, you mostly likely have the stock spindle...which may or may not allow for enough clearance of the powermeter. Not a huge deal as its not rocket science, but good old US manufacturting. Don't fret if you're using it and it works.......

I'm using (most likely) the stock spindle, so I need to double check to see if my powermeter has enough clearance under load (powermeter doesn't scrape the chainstay). If I'm alright...then just figure out a place to put the sensor.

As for right now, I'm thinking of popping off the cable guides and using some 3M VHB tape to apply a plastic piece simliar to PSU. I'll post pix when I get er figured out.

The back-up option is to break out the drill/tap and use the Competitive Cyclist mount.

Of course...all of this assuming I have enough real-world clearance. The bike kicks ass so I'm hopeful I can get this to work.

I have a nifty lil presentation that I can email folks from Cannondale regarding SRM install.

Otherwise, this is what I did. Simply bought another cable guide, drilled it out, dremeled a slight groove for the CC sensor mount, fitted a bolt/nut through the hole and then used 3M VHB to secure the cable guide back to the frame.

Apologies for the grime...I took it out for a ride today.
