Beyond that unless you have an amateur radio licence, you are stuck with CB

Yes, I was using such a system last night. Motorola Talkabout T5522, not
very expensive, fit easily in the back pocket of your jersey, take a
variety of 'hands-free' earpiece/microphone addons.

There are a large number of similar models all using the same frequency
band. The range is quite short but you don't need a licence to use
them, and when cycling in a group they do the job.

PMR 446 radios are Ok up to about 3km, but need a good line of sight to
