You're right that the monitor has no way of knowing that you are starting from the same point, however, I'm a firm believer in the design principle of making the thing you do most often as simple as possible. I suspect that many, if not most, people start their next ride where they finished their last one so making the default behavior of resetting the computer to reinitialize the altimiter to the saved altitude would eliminate what is currently a 6 step process.

As a follow up to my own post, my Vetta died a few days ago (no display, changing batteries - twice - didn't help). Also as noted on my previous post, I've called Vetta every day this week (it's Wednesday) gone through their tedious menu system to customer service, gotten a recording that says "leave a message and someone will call you back", left a message each day and have yet to receive a call. How does one return the damned thing if you can't even get them to call you back?
I've got an Oregon Scientific Outbreaker which doubles as a very fetching, half a house brick wristwatch. I've had numerous problems with it - press a button and it reacts twice, have to recalibrate the altitude constantly, the cadence oscillates wildly if it works at all, the chest transmitter goes through batteries like i go through cashew nuts. What else? Oh this is the best, sometimes it just resets itself to 8am for no reason at all and I lose all the data I've been recording.
On paper it looks fantastic. In retrospect I wouldn't recommend it - unless I can get a replacement that actually works, but that will have to wait till I'm back in the UK in a couple of months. The company I bought it from - clove.co.uk are very good though and have promised to look into it when I'm back home.
