About 600 pounds to spend on a winter trainer. Anyone got any opinions on any of the following or alternative suggestions.
Considering a : -Dawes Audax (they seem to be available for this much although the standard price is nearer 800) - Ribble winter special - Tifosi ( I can get the audax built with 105 and carbon forks for about 550 minus wheels - I already have a half decent set of Shimano 9 speed training wheels although I'd probably need a new cassette with a bigger top cog as currently on 12-21) - Buying a Cougar 531 winter frame and forks and looking for a second hand group set, using my wheels and sourcing other stuff from existing bikes and second hand. The disadvantage is I'd probably have to get help building it.
ALthough it is a winter trainer I will be using it to go out with some fairly fast riders - faster than me anyway - so I can't afford to ride some nail because I'll just get dropped on the hills. I don't need or want a triple though not particularly fussed if the bike comes with one.

Your 600 pounds leaves you a little short of what you need for a Computrainer.
I would suggest you save some more.
Seriously, I don't know the trainers you mention in your post, but I can't imagine they're better in price for performance.
You gave a fine response, though, for someone looking to buy a CompuTrainer for 600 pounds.
🙂
I'm just thinking any inexpensive, beefy bike with a new Tiagra or 105 drivetrain, or a decent second-hand gruppo, would do fine; I'm building a beater bike out of a super cheap Surly Pacer frame and a mix of used Ultegra, 105, and RSX100 parts. So long as the frame and wheels are tough, it's a matter of whatever works for you.
well..just my 2 cents...and yes I'm talking about indoor lol...but I go to Bally's Fitness center here and they have "spinning" class...they use the Schwinn stationary bikes..and they're pretty cool. I noticed Lemond also has one just came out and it's suppose to be microadjustable..you can make it fit almost like your bike's geometry.... these are kinda steep...$1000
