you dont ever coast on a trainer, your always pedaling.

Rollers can help develop your balance and handling skills, but like any indoor exercise they're boring as hell. I typically only ride on mine in the winter when I can't get outside.

The trainer is boring but a necessity if you are to maintain conditioning year round unless you have good weather always.
Yes, you don't coast but you can pause and stretch ocassionally and there is no wind so I recommend a fan for cooling. -
There is a big difference other than just boredom. Even though you're pedalling you arent working out your upper body, which is used to absorb road vibrations. You're forearms, back, shoulders really get a workout on road rides.

u are asking for a difference between the two forms of riding. this probably means that u are asking for a direct comparison. riding on a trainer can and should never take the place of riding on the road. use a trainer only when u can not get out on the road for one reason or another (weather, traffic, sunlight). and tho a trainer is a great tool for the ultimatly dedicated cyclist, its static position takes away from the enjoyment of rider.
personally, i assosiate my trainer with painful intervals and sweating like crazy.
