For those of you in the Smoke, who would like to encourage a friend,
colleague, loved one to cycle, there are rides on Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday meet 9:30 Ladywell Fields, 10am at the Cutty Sark.
Sunday meet 10am at the London Needle, south end of London Bridge.

I wonder what the response would be if the CTC ran men only events?

I think the point is in part that they (and similar organisations) often
do, if only by accident rather than design.

Or the men in bike shops! One shop assistant in Evans at Waterloo
recently told me to make sure I shaved my undercarriage, bit
distasteful but didn't annoy me as much as the guy in Action Bikes in
Wimbledon a few weeks ago. He, almost lost his temper with me. I told
him I didn't want to spend too much on a cycling helmet, meaning I
didn't want the most expensive one and he went mad. Then when I asked
what different colours the helmets came in he went mad again saying I
was putting fashion before function. It's really put me off bike
shops. He treated me with such contempt. I would have told him to
shove it if I hadn't needed the helmet for the following day.

The organiser of Sunday's ride assures me that men in pink tutus
are more than welcome.
Joking aside, these are women-led rides. You could (say) bring along
a female relative or friend to introduce them to cycling.

For some reason, the first one isn't on the CTC site.

2 rides on Saturday 4th June specifically aimed at women. Both rides
will start from Ladywell Fields in Lewisham at 9.30 am riding to Cutty
Sark Gardens in Greenwich where both rides leave at 10 am. One ride will
be for those ladies who want to see what the wonders of Docklands are
all about and we will make full use of the Docklands area including the
Thames Cycle Route and other Sustrans routes. The second ride will keep
to roads but using the Thames as a backdrop and be for those more
experienced. Rides are lead by members of Lewisham and Greenwich
Cyclists (part of the London Cycle Campaign) who regularly organise
weekend rides to suit everyone.

Sunday 5th June: Ladies' ride
approx. 18 miles reverse Locks, Docks, Woolwich Ferry to Greenwich Park.
Meet 10am at Southwark Needle, London Bridge. Bring spare tubes, pump,
sandwiches, water. Ride north of river, then east through Isle of Dogs,
past London City Airport, cross river on Woolwich Ferry, into Greenwich
Park to the Green Fair and get your bike tweaked by Dr Bike. Men in pink
tutus welcome!

Don't let it do that. I don't go there, but many people speak highly
of Brixton Cycle Co-op.

The Saturday ride is not listed on the CTC website.

And should chaps wish to come, they are very welcome,
if wearing pink tutus.
Seriously, if you have a friend or relative you wish to get into
cycling I'm sure you will be welcome.
