I don't think he will be back unless it is in a management or DS job at Astana. Under current rules he may have to wait four years to do that.

Didnt he do cage fighting as a teen ager, but without the gold chains?

I think Vino will be gone 2yr ban and retired.

But what about forfeiting a years salary? Has the UCI taken any steps whatsoever with any banned rider to implement what was supposed to be a key part of the much trumpeted 'clean' contracts. Or was it yet another empty gesture that was all but unenforceable.

I hope Vino is back. Dope and all. I don't care anymore. I just want to see a good race with the best riders. How boring did the Tour become last year after Vino and Ras were kicked out. It sucked!

The best races are the ones where the riders look like death crossing the finishing line, sucking air like it's their last breath, not when they hop off their bikes and chat on a cell phone or whatever like they just finished a Sunday ride in the park. I wouldn't consider that type of racing "good" whatsoever - more like an absurd caricature of what professional cycling is really supposed to be.

So I hope we've seen the end of the Armstrong-Vino-Ullrich-Basso etc era and we can get back to watching real racing.

Alexander Vinokourov is still awaiting word on his fate after his positive test for blood doping during the Tour de France, but he has not entirely turned his back on sport. According to the French newspaper Le Monde, he is planning to build a luxury sports center in Nice, where athletes can train for the 2012 London Olympics. The facility would offer a variety of facilities for various sports.

The center is estimated to cost about 38 million Euro, and "Vino" is said to have invested 1.4 million Euros of his own money in it. However, the project has run into opposition from local politicians who question a training center run by someone who is facing doping charges.
