My god! D grade involves a complete lack of organisation, not teamwork. What ever happened to "stuff the rest of ya, I'm looking out for number one"?

That's the sort of stuff that gets you bumped up, you know, and the C graders are a nasty lot.

That's half the joke! i doubt even if i wanted to i couldnt race in an 'organised' manner. basically Im just hoping one of us does OK 🙄

Got there, spotted Koon and Nick on there resplendent fixies!
Gags, Ess93, Jazmo, Craigster, GPLama, and? (who have i forgotten).
Did warmup, felt [censored]. decided pretty quickly this one was gong to be down to a training ride so set myself the goal of hanging on till 1 lap to go.
Did that, job done.

Shall leave THE REAL REPORT/S to Ess93 and GAGSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

drinks.

Well, the BR team tactics were non existant again but we managed a one-two
finish!! Saw Dutch before race and checked out fixies (I need to get off my
[censored] and get mine on the road). Dutch and I commented to each other that we
both felt pretty [censored].....did about 3 or 4 slow laps to warm up and then
pulled in at the hairpin about 10 min before start time.

Early on the pace was fairly quick and the combination of a fairly big field
(34 riders I think) and a bit of wind led to quite a few close calls. There
were people cutting in everywhere and a couple of riders in particular were
all over the shop. I struggled to find a decent wheel to sit on for the
first few laps because as soon as I dropped back more than a foot or so,
someone would edge in and claim the wheel (maybe I am just too nice for
letting them in??). I finally managed to get in at about 6th or 7th wheel
or so where I wanted to be and then C grade went past us. Majority of D
grade sat up and held their positions but there were a handful who used the
time to make up a few spots (I reckon that is like overtaking when the
yellow flag is out in motor racing).

About 20 min mark (race shortened to 25min + 3 laps due to poor light) I
went off the front at the bottom of the sweeper just to give everyone a bit
of a poke and to get the legs prepared for the final sprint (I have read
somewhere that it is good to do a sprint before the final sprint). I went
around the hairpin in front and then sat up going up the hill and took it
easy to let everyone catch up so I wasn't out in front anymore.

As we came up to the "3 laps to go" warning I went past Dutch going up the
hill and asked him if he wanted a lead out for the finish (I was ready to
take one for the team). Dutch replied with something that I didn't quite
make out but I think it was along the lines of....."[censored] Gags".

Speed went up for the last couple of laps and there was a couple of
breakaways. Ess93 jumped off the front of the pack with about half a lap to
go and I thought he had it in the bag. At this stage I was at about 5th or
6th wheel and I went as hard as I could on the right hand side to try to
stay in touch at the last hairpin. I shifted into my biggest gear prior to
the hairpin and went around about 10m or so behind Ess93 in a bunch with 3
other guys. As soon as I was far enough around to stand up I got out of the
saddle for the uphill sprint to the line. I got in front of the 3 guys I
cornered with and then just concentrated on Ess93. I wasn't too confident
given how fast he goes up a hill but I was slowly gaining on him until about
2/3rds of the way up when he sat back in the saddle. At this point I
started reeling him in a bit quicker and so I tried to turn it up another
notch to "ludicrous speed". By this stage I was sucking in the air like a
mad man and I nearly clipped his back wheel as I pulled out to go past him.
Felt like the bike was flexing all over the place at this stage but I kept
out of the saddle and sprinting until right at the line.

I wasn't entirely sure that we had reeled in all of the breakaways but we
had and so I came up with the win!!!! I have no idea how far behind me
Ess93 was or how far behind him everyone else was but hopefully one of the
BR guys who were spectating will be able to tell me. Not sure what happened
to Dutch....I think he pulled out before the final sprint?? Don't think I
saw Dej apart from at the start of the race either??

Went to get the $15 prizemoney and because of the large number of riders
(104 in all grades), it was actually $20 for first and Ess93 got $15 for
second......wooot.

I won't be able to make it next week to the crits but I am now keen to have
a crack at C grade the week after for the last crit of the series (I think).
Unless of course all the BR guys show up to race in which case I reckon we
should all go in D grade and do a team time trial right from the "ready
seddy go" at the start. Would be good to see everyone elses reaction if we
managed to get away and even better if we could get a lap on C grade 🙂

If they were still out in front, then I would do something about it on the last lap. For some reason my sub-conscious said sit, where I should have clicked up another gear..well that’s not going to happen again, you can be sure of that.[/font]

PS. A 25min + 3 laps should be an all-out effort, so another way you could work it is to try a team sprint to form a breakaway, then TTT to the end.

I reckon that would be a crack up, coming up to C grade, and yelling out "stay to the left C-grade, D-grade coming through." The looks on their faces would be priceless. Of course we would need G.P to drop back to D, and Blah to fire up the cylinders, and just protect the team leader, and get him over the line. Well Dutchy are you up for it ? hehehe😄
