The first two would be partly sorted if more people cycled to work.

That adds up to over 200%, means that most people have more than one
excuse handy in case one of them goes away. What about "I prefer
sitting in a comfy car" or "I believe my flash car sets me above the
rest of the population" and "I look upon cyclists as inferior beings".

concern. Riding assertively (primary position, taking the lane) is much
less stressful if it doesn't automatically involve a queue of impatient
motorists behind one, and it's the inexperienced cyclists who are going
to be less able to deal with the intimidation anyway.

No, I'm sure people who say "not fit enough" are worried that the ride
will either be not-doable or leave them a physical wreck for the rest
of the day. These will be the people who may well have little idea
of distance and think that some super-human effort is required to ride
three or four miles into work.

"I prefer sitting in a comfy car" would be close to the "Too
rainy/windy/cold". Might also come under "Not fit enough" (you probably
wouldn't be if you went in the car) and possibly the last two as well.

I read somewhere that lack of facilities (changing/showering and bike
parking) was a higher reason than safety given by another survey.

Good to see that only 3% gave "takes too long" because actually it is
the quickest method for me. I can cycle to work during rush hour in
40-45 minutes.

I also wonder how many do not have safe cycle-parking facilities at
home and thus do not have a bicycle. One may also question how many can
afford a bicycle assuming they will sometimes need a car as well.

That's the one for me. It's only 500m and it's quicker to walk it (once
you take into account the time taken to unlock and lock the bike at
each end).

Well, be fair, some of the lumps of metal that the public calls "bikes"
*DO* require some super-human effort to move on the level, let alone up
