  1. I'm 6 weeks into Atkins now. Did the 2 weeks of Induction and lost 6
pounds. I haven't lost any weight since then, but I continued to lose
according to measuring tape until two weeks ago. Since then, nothing.

I'm sticking to less than 30 carbs a day, and last week I started
    exercising - I did a 40-minute aerobic workout 5 times (over 5 days). I was
really hoping that the workouts would jump start weight loss! Also,
according to FitDay, I'm burning way more calories than I'm consuming.

I'm still determined to stick this out, but I have to say that I'm not as
    optimistic as I was...

Possible pitfalls...I've reintroduced caffeine - 2 cups of tea in the
morning. Much less than the whole pot of coffee I used to drink. And 2
glasses of dry white wine or rose in the evenings, which is also a big
difference from the beer I used to enjoy (now that it's summer). I realize
these could be pitfalls - but overall my eating and exercise habits are so
dramatically different from what they were, shouldn't I still be seeing
    changes?

Cravings are not an issue for me. I'm really only eating twice a day,
because I can't imagine eating any more than that. Couple of eggs and some
bacon around noon, and a double-veggie and grilled meat dinner.
Occasionally some berries & cream for dessert - maybe once a week. No diet
sodas, no fake foods. And I read the NG every day.

In the ANDR book, Atkins suggests going back on Induction for 3 or 4 days.
I guess I'll give that a try, and keep up my workout schedule...

Any words of encouragement or advice?

Started Atkins last summer and lost 18 pounds, didn't gain it back. Started
again this summer and have lost 6. Sticking with it this time!

    Yes.

Every human body is different. Yours is different from mine, and mine is
different from Saffy's or Carol's or anyone elses.

Enjoy and live your life. Unless you're morbidly obese, where your weight
is life-threatening, don't worry about it. Live and enjoy the new
lifestyle, and realize that weight control is now in your hands. It may
take awhile, but it will happen. In the meantime, work for your future.
Your goals are there in front of you, and you will find them.

  3. You eat too much.

You really can't measure a stall in terms of weeks. If you haven't lost
inches or lbs in an entire month or two, then you have stalled. A couple
weeks is normal, and may make up for lost time in another week or two.

    Quoted message said:

Stay optimistic! You're making progress. Realistically, we don't lose
weight every week. If we go back and average our weight loss for the month,
it's generally 1 to 2 lbs a week. I could lose 8 lbs in one month where 2
weeks of which I lost nothing (it has happened).

You could try cutting both of them out just to see if makes a difference.
Or maybe cut one out for a week, then the other one?

    ahhhh, so refreshing. 🙂

Just stick it out. You'll be happy you did.

Staci, just take it easy... don't go bonkers about the scale... keep up the
good work and you will see the results.

I know exactly what you are going through. After initial weight loss of the
first two weeks I even gained weight - about 1 1/2 lb (*ugh*) but now I'm
losing again. Weight swings and mini-stalls might also be a question of TOM
    - this time of the month... most women tend to gain water weight during
menstruation. These can be ridiculous fluctuations, sometimes I can *see*
the darn water in my legs *sigh*.

I have just finished week 6, too... care for a diet buddy? 😉

You might want to go easy on the wine. It does have carbs, the main pitfall
in wine is that the liver does the detoxification and it is the liver which
helps to get rid of the fat... if it is busy processing alcohol it cannot
    work on the fats.

sounds great - you do get enough calories, do you? don't be fooled into

Yep, the caffeine could cause a stall. Also, you should cut out the wine.
Atkins wrote in his book that when you drink alcohol, your body will burn
that first and not burn fat. Get decaf tea. It isn't so different from
    regular tea that you'll notice.

I have read that when you eat less during the day, your body readjusts and
your metabolism slows down. This could be a problem. Haven't you ever
noticed those body builders always say to eat 6 times a day? So, you should
be eating at least 3 times a day.

  7. Also, you should cut out the wine.

    Quoted message said:

Atkins wrote in his book that when you drink alcohol, your body will burn
that first and not burn fat.

For every serving of wine (5 ounces), you slow down fat burning by about 78%
in a period of 1-2 hours.

It takes years to pack the pounds on. I can live with a minor slow down for
    1 to 2 hours.

Atkins, Agatston, and Eades say wine's okay. Enjoy.

    Moderation, Not Deprivation

  8. Besides completely cutting the wine, I think this is the most important
thing too. You have to keep your metabolism up and that means eating at
least 3 meals a day spaced no more than 6 hours apart, with the exception
of overnight while you sleep, of course. I was like you pre-LC...I hadn't
eaten breakfast since I was in high school and couldn't imagine eating in
the morning. But I got used to it pretty easily and now can't imagine
    skipping it. :-)
What you've listed as your average daily food consumption also makes me
wonder if you're getting enough calories for your BMR (Basal Metabolic
Rate)? Too few calories also causes your metabolism to slow down.
I'm not doing Atkins, but they have a good article on it here:

The other problem with eating below your BMR is that your body will consume

according to FitDay, I'm burning way more calories than I'm consuming.

Fitday is known for grossly overestimating calories burned, unless you

  16. Yes, I've used FitDay sporatically, but now I'll use it every day.

Doesn't it make sense that I need to eat enough calories to maintain heart
and brain function, and not doing so could slow down my metabolism? Or do
you think there is a flaw in that thinking? Honest question.

Looks like I've been eating around 1200 calories a day, which is 400

One thing that many people overlook is that newly-introduced exercise can
cause various things to happen in your body that will look like a stall -
you start adding muscle mass (weight up, volume down) and can start
retaining water (weight up, volume up) as it takes the place of fat in
your fat cells. Then, as you eventually lose more weight, your
weight-bearing muscles may lose mass as they adjust downward to the
    lighter load.

When I started exercising again (first weight training, then
walking/hiking), I 'stalled' for quite a while, first on weight, then on
size, but this was followed by a significant 'whoosh', followed by two
months during which I went down two pants sizes without losing so much as
    a pound.

It's a complex equation and the scale doesn't tell much of the story. I
think the time is coming when we'll have the technology to do easy, quick,
and accurate measures of body composition so that 'weight' in and of
itself is no longer the sole focus.

  19. If FitDay shows that you are really averaging 1200 per day, that should be
fine. You just need time. For many though, estimating calories without
weighing portions or using software to track leads to underestimating
calories. There have been studies that show a human tendency to
    underestimate.

IMHO: The ideas about reduced metabolism are exaggerated. In my experience,
if the calories are low enough, I lose weight. If I triggered a metabolic
slowdown (and this is likely), the net result still allowed weight loss.

600 calories per day is in the danger zone.

Plus, even if reduced metabolism occurs with lower calorie intake, you can
