what is norse? i've done little research but, not enough to tell me if my namesake is irish or scottish

NY...You have to have really thick skin to hang in the Soap Box...Everyone takes a beating, you just dish it right back (with tact ofcourse) and roll with it.

As for the Norse...Did you pay attention in World History? The great Norsemen are your ancestors (atleast they are mine) if your ancestors hail from Northern Europe!!!

thats the thing. I know the people in my family on that side, but I have not talked to them in probably 11 years. my birth father left me and my mom and my older brother when i was 2. the rest of his family just slowly pulled themselves away from me and my mom and brother. and yes i payed attention in school. but i don't ever remember talking or hearing about the norsemen. but the school system here in odessa is a crying shame. (LITERALLY)

There's alot of old "codger's" here. Technically, I'm one of them. Don't sweat it but, we do have some strong words in this soapbox. That is what it is for 🙂

  12. A lot of names in Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales are of Norse or Norwegian origin because of the Norse occupation of the British costal fringes between 700ad and 1200ad. Most settled as farmers and rasied a family and thier names are still prevalent today.

Hoy does sound Norse rather that Gaelic but the spelling would have changed over the years so it is hard to say.

this site may give you some insight....its a complicated affair however...good luck

Thanks for the site mountainpro. and for all the info in general. your avatar is Marco Pantani right? El Pirata?

  15. I talked with my brother and he said that our last name is Scottish. little did i know that he did some research of his own a long time ago.

correct...the Giro doesnt seem the same these days without him...

  17. Yea, I thought it was. I read about him in my Bicycling magazine. really tragic. why is it that all the extrodinary people in this world always seem to have a very very dark side to them?
