  1. Whty does anyone even reading the mentally disturbed postings of Mike Vandeman let alone
    reply to them?

The only way to deal with the nut is to completely ignore his every postings.

I wrote him off when his 'working to develop a natural environment' turned out to be a 10 square
    foot section of his backyard.

I agree. I put him in my kill file years ago and don't miss him. Filtering out all the follow-ups is
a hassle, though. Folks, if you want to reply to him, please e-mail or telephone directly. None of
the rest of us is interested.

This "Typical Mountain Biker" hasn't looked at one of his postings for years, but I still see all of
    his "Subject:" lines. :-(

Every minute that Mikey spends trolling USENET is one less minute Mikey uses to conduct research,
    which explains a lot, eh?

Well, I countered one of his pieces of emotional tripe with a thoughtful critque of it and he never
responded. Other than that, returning the bait to him can be a form of entertainment. It's quite
important not to take him seriously, as he doesn't justify it.

Considering his postings, it ought to be well fertilized.

    Mike procreating.

    Yeah, but crime still happens.

Honestly, I find Mike to be very lacking in commitment. It's one thing to scribble down the cutsey
tripe he does and send it to people, its another to convince people you're not an utter crackpot
    when speaking before them.

Yeah, but at least moderation scoured him from rec.bicycles.off-road so you can go there and have a
    slightly time-delayed conversation.

Now that I think about it, it is a bit frightening. Any normal potential "mate" would
instinctually run like hell from him ... but if he ever does procreate, it will have to be with
someone who's genes are as equally polluting to the pool. Let's just hope such an abomination does

It's great practice for dealing with delinquent six-year-olds. My kids are growing out of that sort
of argument now, so I've plonked the sucker.

Can't you filter based on words in the article? Would filter out any messages with V quoted...

Anybody for rec.bicycles.vandeman? I guess he'd be so honoured he'd spend all his time spamming that
group? At least the amount of traffic and discussion generated would warrant a separate group!

I have bad news for you. It probably involves multiple recessive genes as well as (gasp!) a mixture
    of environmental (sic!) conditions.

So, whatever happens, in a million years there could be another V.

Reading Vandeman is like picking at a scab: you know you shouldn't do it but you just can't
    help yourself.

Oh so true. Also the wound tends to fester and end in gangrene to the entire limb (or in his case
    newsgroup).

Yep, such continuous ranting is truly rare. But your estimate before we got a reincarnation? Uh, I
think I'd take that time limit to 5. Oh, no, not 5 million - five. Maybe even next month. I think
the truly far out people are pretty much always among us. They await but the opportunity. [censored],
for instance. Never happen again? Then how come we got Idi Amin, whatshisname in Cambodia, then
Bosnia and Iraq? Just a few. Good fun, the whole lot. BTW, I'm not comparing Mikey's behavior to
that of those tyrants, just noting the recurrence of the radical fringe behavior. It seems to
    never end.

Enjoying your sarcasm that might possibly be there.
