According to the cn.com report as well as Al&Bobke's TV comments, the
first hour was full of tactical high-speed racing, and here we are
watching recreational cyclists pace the peloton instead.

BTW, someday I'll go to France and see the Tour, and I'll run alongside
the riders. But I've decided to do it on a downhill, just to be different.

I thought that was pretty funny with the cyclists. Sometimes you see kids on
dirt bikes doing the same thing.

So far, the funniest moment was the cows. Stop for cows! I think I remember
seeing something like that once, during the tour of spain? A big cow ran
into the road. And we have a photo of some ONCE guy, I don't know who,
caught behind a big herd of sheep. Or goats? Definitely from the tour of
spain.

what interesting part of the race didn't you see? You saw the breakaway that
finally made it ... you saw the guy who overpowered the break and won. You also
saw the field sprint for green jersey points.

I'm sure there was more in the live coverage, but I missed it today.

OLN can only show what the rest of the world gets ... they don't have their own
motorcycle cameras on the road. So, when the rest of the world gets live
coverage, so do we. This holds true for the Giro and the Vuelta.

Did'ja ever hear the stories of old when the racers would just plod along
easily until the helicopters would show up ... then they would start racing??

they don't show the first part of the race.

For the long mountain stages such as on Saturday, we get coverage from
the start at 11AM (Central European) to the end, although the
Liggett/Sherwin commentary only comes in later on, presumably when the US
feed starts.

Actually, they really have no excuse. July on OLN is TDF month. Their
highest ratings ever were last year during the TDF. They also repeat
the day's coverage so much that I don't see why they don't cut out some
of the repeat coverage and give us some of the early coverage.

Probably the exception rather than the rule.

Interesting. I know that I've watched the descents and there are long
stretches of the road where there are no spectators at all. On the climbs
you always see at least a few throughout the entire climb.

Based on the cyclingnews full & live reports, there was constant
attacking in the first hour. Voeckler even tried to get in a break.
Hincapie said they rode hard for three hours, though we saw much of that
and it didn't look that hard to me.

It may be only on the mountain stages, but I've heard that European
audiences often get to see more than we.
