I recently had a work up for some chest discomfort. It was negative and the cardiologist asked me if I was still working the stressful job. I work out aerobically for an hour a day - my question is why would stress, anxiety etc cause chest discomfort if you are otherwise healthy?

Then why did the doctor ask when everything came up negative if I was still working a stressful job? Also my GP blamed my chest tightness on panic? Just appeasing me? Thank you for your answer.
Chuck, sounds like you could be having the chest discomfort from the stress and possibly having some mild panic attacks. Stress does strange things to a body. My husband breaks out in hives when he's under alot of stress. Did your doc do an EKG?

Did the GP give you (or rather want to give you) an anti- anxiety med? You might want to try it and see if it helps you, that way you'll know if it's from anxiety and/or panic.
