Is CTCShop run by Evans, or is Evans run by CTCShop. (Or are the
websites and prices very similar just by chance)?

Ah! That would explain why I got a sale flyer through the post from
Evans, though I couldn't remember ever using them...Pete.

Evans use of the CTC database of members for Evans own marketing purposes?
Did you give permission for the CTC to allow your details to be used in
*this* way? Has the CTC been paid for this database?Just my musings.

So if I have an Evans 10% discount card and am a CTC member will the
discounted prices be the same at both stores? Is there still an
advnatage in using the CTC store as Evans will pass on a commission to
the Club?--

Presumably they captured Peter's details when he bought something at
the CTC online store. This still seems an abuse of Evans' store
hosting.--

of 3W dynamo headlight bulbs), so I have effectively done business with
Evans Cycles and thus not a Big Jump to them having my name and address.
They needed it to send the bulbs to me, after all, so I think Don't
Panic quite yet.Pete.

Clear breach of the Data Protection Act. Your data was collected for
the purposes of your shopping with the CTC. It was not collected to for
the purposes of Evans marketing to you outside of that context even if
Evans has been contracted to run the CTC shop.Tony

--Not a question of whether the "Don't Panic" stage has been reached - it
seems there may well be a breach of data protection. Even if there's not, I
don't like compnaies who act in an apparently unethical manner. And there's
at least a sniff of a bit of dubious ethics here. Of course there may well
be an entirely innocent explanation.Cheers, helen s

feel bothered by them, and I've just made a guess as to how I got one of

what has happened is *possibly* a breach of data protection. Being in
business, I have to take data protection seriously in the work I do or I
might end a criminal. You are entirely at liberty to totally ignore anything
I say and no-one is forcing you to be outraged:-) For example, I run a
couple of businesses - I simply would not use client information from one
across to the other without the specific prior consent of the client. But
that's just me :-)Cheers, helen s

I was under the impression data had only to be used for the purposes it was
originally captured for (excuse the grammar!). So even if CTC shop change
their franchisee they are still using the data for its original purpose - to
communicate to you about bits for bikes even if at the end of the supply
line their is someone different acting as their agent.Julia

search at Companies House might reveal How They Are Related.http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/
However, I can say for a start there is no registered UK company called
Evans Cycles.Trading names are of little use in establishing who you are dealing
with. Any registered company can trade under as many or as few names as
it likes.--

Clear breach of the Data Protection Act. Your data was collected for
the purposes of your shopping with the CTC. It was not collected to for
the purposes of Evans marketing to you outside of that context even if
Evans has been contracted to run the CTC shop. Before jumping to conclusions, you need to demonstrate that Evans is
legally not the CTC shop. After that you have to show that whatever order was sent to the CTC shop
did not have one of those "tick the box if you do/don't want your
details passed on" boxes, or if it did, that it was left in a state that
do not pass on details.--

interaction is with the CTC through the CTC shop not with Evans and Data
Protection Act limits the use of your data to interaction with the CTC.
Plus the tick box under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Act
you have to positively opt in, not fail to untick a box.Tony
