Obree's book has just been published - you can get it from amazon.co.uk for about $10.

He's incredibly honest in the book and it's one of the best cycling books/sporting biographies I
read in a long time. It's a great insight into one of sports true heros/originals. It gives a good
insight into some darker areas of the cycling establishment, like some of the [censored] that are
involved in promoting cycling and this makes Obree's cycling achievements even more remarkable - do
you know that just before he set his second world hour record the French promoter (Daniel Le B'stad
I think his name was) demanded that Obree attempt it the week before the official date on a tiny
166m track. Obree broke the 10km record then stopped due to the track size. The promoter went nuts
and threatened to cancel the official attempt on the 250m track in Bordeaux unless Obree exceeded
the record schedule with a 45min trial run 3 days before the official attempt - can you imagine
what Merckx

Get the book - it puts to shame some of the bum fluff that has been passed off as cycling
biographies in the past few years.

Great article thanks! Once again it shows what the establishment will do to retain the controls of
power. How much invention and innovation has been squashed in truely important areas like the
automotive industry and elsewhere? Reading a story like this shows how petty tyrants and political
tyrants alike continue to rule the world.
