What can I say about the last two days of racing ? Lance Armstrong is the best rider in the world if not the greatest ever. I’m sorry to all those who think he is not but my perspective has completely changed. What I saw on Tuesday was the most aggressive, passionate and intelligent ride I have ever seen him do since Luz Ardidenin 2003. He wanted to win and he wanted to gain time and crush his rivals. He practically rode the last 10km on his own and on the front of the breakaway. Ullrich, Vino and the rest are just not in the same class. When it counts Armstrong performs end of story. No cracks, no bonks, no crashes, no excuses he performs. The Tour is over there is no way anyone else can win. Discovery is just far to strong for anyone to attack on the long climbs. The only way anyone can get away is if they attack from 180km from the finish and that will kill them for the following days !

People on this forum keeping saying its not over but it is. Vino may attack several more times before [/font][font=Verdana]Paris[/font][font=Verdana] but he is only going to grab 30s here 30 secs there not enough to turn it around and gain 2 minutes before the final time trial. Ullrich is just holding on and Basso just doesn’t have the strength to attack and shake Discovery.

So there you have it I have now changed my viewpoint, Armstrong is by far the best rider and the only interest in the Tour is how far he can win by and to take note of younger riders who can star in the future. ie Valverde.

One other comment I will make is that Discovery riders are awesome and with the exception of Hincape who has ridden well all year and [/font][font=Verdana]Savodelli [/font][font=Verdana]who won the Giro how can they be so strong when they have hardly raced all year ? Beltran and Avervado are riding 85% of the stages on the front ! Is this not going to kill them ? After a very fast first week the major comment from most riders is how fast Discovery are riding on the climbs and that they can barely hang-on let alone contemplate an attack. Why is this so ? I also cant understand how Armstrong who has limited preparation this year and very few races can be at such a good level… maybe he is just enjoying himself ! I’m not casting any aspersions but he and his team are so far ahead of anyone else it’s just not funny.

Hopefully next year the Tour organisers will design a course that has more opportunity for riders to gain time on teams like Discovery. 40km of flat after a major climb is senseless as the peleton will just draw in the break. We need more uphill finishes on the flat stages for riders to grab 20 seconds plus the stage bonus and more mountain top finishes and more tricky small long sharp hills like last Saturday. Otherwise teams like Discovery and I’m sure other sponsors will start building their teams in a similar fashion will take the ‘wow’ and ‘surprise’ factors out of cycling.[/font]

[font=Verdana]In closing the T-Mobile’s ‘who is leader’ game is over as they are all so far back it doesn’t matter. Let’s hope it gives them impetus to attack like crazy to get some stage wins.

I woke up this morning and was really enjoying my typical 6 beer breakfast when I realized that there is only about 9 days of racing left. My life is about over for another year. I will go into a depression and start drinking beer for breakfast. My mother tells me that I should get a job, move out of her basement and start riding my bike. My 40th birthday is coming up so maybe she will buy me one. What do you guys do the rest of the year when the TDF is not on ?????? How do you keep focused ???

Believe it or not I have to run a multi-national company in between these postings...... as for the rest of the year you can always watch other cycling races that don't included LA in them..... 😎
