Which Welds Are Better?

I've done arc, MIG, TIG, and gas. Was way back in the days I worked in a
foundry, but I remember you want a more melted appearance than a
spattered appearance. Your welds look more like they are sitting ON the
metal. Your doing MIG? I'd say slow down the wire some so you get more
weld and less mess. It takes a while to get it. If I tried now, it'd be
a mess...

Some one will probably post that I am full of it, but that's what I
recall!

I like the green one. It has that speckled abstract look that is so

I would say the green one is going to be stronger, they both need work,
but the green one has better penetration into the metal, however the
gas could be turned up to rid that spatter.

i'd have to agree that neither one is very good. is there a "neither"

Yeah, those are some ugly ass welds. The green is all cracking and looks
like it'll drop off if you touch it...

well those are some pretty dodgy welds. the green one, done by me (with
no experience) was done with a really old [censored] stick welder and the
gray ones done by ur dad (20 years experience) was done with a brand
new MIG welder. it looks there that you took a pic of my crappiest
weld, and y did u do that when i had perfectly good MIG welds on there,
the really really good ones that were [censored] all over ur dads welds.

heres a pic of one of my other welds done by a MIG. now tell me which
one is better, the attached one or th egray one in the picture above.

The attached one is of course better, were you using DC pulsing to get
the ripple effect or did you manage it with your torch skills alone?
Personally I would have upped the wire speed slightly to get a larger
fillet, but it looks pretty spanking.

its not about what a weld looks like. its about penetration. neither
of those welds look like they have much penetration. And i doubt that
the picture of the "perfect" weld was done by you, seeing as how crappy
the other one looks LOL.

But yeah, pretty welding is a fad of today, alot of the times welders
are to interested it making it look pretty then getting penetration....

From my knowlage, it is easyer to tell the quality of an aluminum weld
if you can see the opisite side. The weld should be easily visible on
the other side.

well yea i did do both welds but they were done with 2 completely
different welders, the good one been a MIG and th [censored] one been a
stick. as you can probably tell it was my first time stick welding nad
i wasn't used to it.
