Which Front Derailleur?

Although possibly ugly you might get a clamp-on casing stop for the downtube and just run the wire
under the BB. It will work a lot better than any top-pull changer ( those always feel somewhat stiff
compared to a normal bottom-pull model).

There's no harm in running a bare wire across the BB shell. Adding a hole for a nylon giude is quick
and simple. That will shift noticeably smoother and with less effort.

(Campagnolo hasn't made a top-pull front changer in quite a while)

The MTB derailleurs if designed for 48 (some are) will work pretty well on a 50t ring.

This gizmo might let you use the Centaur derailleur - I haven't tried it personally:

You could get an older, for larger rings, shimano MTB front der or we can sell ya a clamp on pulley
system where you can use a standard road, bottom pull front der...

We do this all the time, a shimano 'e-clamp' and a pulley-works great...

Some kind of lube is a good idea, I generally use oil or triflow. Grease under the BB is going to
collect a lot of dirt.
