Chris As you are in the UK repost this in the uk.rec.cycling newsgroup as well. We are a friendly
bunch just dont mention bibshorts to Wafflycat. Someone there will probably be able to point you at
a good local shop for sizing advice. Certainly if you are spending that sort of money sizing is
important. I paid £30 to get myself measured by these people bikefitting.combikefitting.comOpen ↗ and have
been very happy with the result. Any of the bikes you mention will do you fine but I know I couldnt
ride one of those zebra striped Specialized's 🙂

Not knowing much about road bikes I've been trying to find out the best size frame for my build.
The problem is that one shop recommends one size frame (say 56cm), and another shop recommends
58cm (this is on the specialized allez comp). I'm not too sure about the sizing of the other bikes
I'm interested in but I assume they'll either be 56cm or 58cm. Has anyone ridden these three
bikes, or does anyone know what they're like compared to each other. I think I need all the help I
can get as I'm new to the road scene. I'll be using the bike for longish rides over hilly terrain
(Mid, North Wales road loops etc.)

They're all decent bikes. Fit can vary from frame to frame (you may actually need a 56 cm in one
frame and a 58 in the other; one of the most important dimensions is actually the effective top tube
length, not seat tube length). Get a good fit from a shop that's not trying to sell their 54 to you
because they don't have a 58, and it should all work out.

If you can, test ride each bike to get a better idea of how the fit will work out. You may just find
out that one of the bikes feels a lot better.

Let them go ... their bikes are not that special ... i think Pacific should have bought them, let

Every mfr. has slightly different sizing. For instance I ride a 55cm Lemond but the actual
measurements would be one mfr's 56cm and anothers 57cm so it's best to try one of each and go
from there.

And of course that is only the seat tube measurement. I ride a 53 cm Colnago, which measures 52cm
(center to center) and find that it fits me beautifully. A 52cm Cinelli (which would also measure
52cm center to center) would not fit me well as the *top* tube would be at least 1cm longer.
