ALANINE: Activates muscles, boosts the immune system

Whether it does that or not, it's a common amino acid easily obtainable
    from food.

It improves vision if you're deficient in it.

    Quoted message said:

BIOFLAVINOIDS: Removes toxins from skin cells, builds the immune
    system

They are indeed believed to have health benefits, but there's no evidence
    for those particular ones.

    Quoted message said:

    BIOTIN: Produces healthy-looking hair

It's a common B vitamin. A deficiency can in fact result in "Harry Potter
    hair."

    Quoted message said:

BORON: Strengthens bones, enhances mental clarity, unclogs arteries

The bone-strengthening effect may in fact be real, but the other claims are
    questionable.

    Quoted message said:

CALCIUM: Strengthens bones, calms nerves, lowers cholesterol

CHLOROPHYLL: Promotes bowel regularity, cleanses interstitial tissues

CHROMIUM: Moderates existent diabetes, prevents adult-onset diabetes

COBALT: Repairs nerve cells, helps produce red blood cells

As a constituent of vitamin B-12, yes.

    Quoted message said:

COPPER: Eases arthritis, helps produce red blood cells

    CYSTEINE: Detoxifies carcinogens

Whether it does that or not, it's a common amino acid easily obtainable
    from food.

    Quoted message said:

ESSENTIAL FATTY ACIDS: Reduces cardiovascular disease

They're easily obtainable from food. Hold onto the thought that they were
mentioned, because it will be important later on.

    Quoted message said:

ELECTROLYTES: Helps kidneys regain optimum function

Easily available from food, and also hold onto that thought.

    Quoted message said:

    FIBER: Eliminates toxic wastes

The recommendation for fiber intake is at least 25 grams per day. How much
of that can be obtained from algae?

    Quoted message said:

FLUORINE: Fights tooth decay, hardens bone

The antifluoridationistas aren't going to be happy about this one.

    Quoted message said:

FOLIC ACID: Improves mental function, prevents anemia

Actually, the most important benefit is that it reduces the risk of certain
    fetal malformations.

    Quoted message said:

    GERMANIUM: Helps control Epstein-Barr virus

    GAMMA-LINOLENIC ACID (GLA): Lowers cholesterol

    GLUTAMIC ACID: Reduces alcohol/sugar cravings

    Quoted message said:

    GLUTAMINE: Improves concentration

Whether it does that or not, it's a common amino acid easily obtainable
    from food.

    Quoted message said:

GLUTATHIONE: Defends against free radical attack

It does indeed do that inside the cells, but it's a polypeptide so it will
be broken down in the small intestine.

    Quoted message said:

    GLYCINE: Calms nervous system

Whether it does that or not, it's a common amino acid easily obtainable
    from food.

    Quoted message said:

    GLYCOGEN: Increases physical stamina

It's essentially just a form of starch and is digested the same way.
    Nothing special about it.

    Quoted message said:

HISTIDINE: Enhances nutrient absorption, removes toxic metals

Whether it does that or not, it's a common amino acid easily obtainable
    from food.

    Quoted message said:

    LINOLEIC ACID: Combats viral infections

Remember "hold onto that thought"? Linoleic acid is an essential fatty
acid, and you already mentioned those. No fair double-dipping; the
nutritional value of an ingredient isn't increased by mentioning it
    multiple times.

    LYSINE: Helps prevent osteoporosis

    Quoted message said:

    MOYBDENUM: Increases longevity

    But not, apparently, spelling ability.

    Quoted message said:

NIACIN (VITAMIN B3): Reduces stress, lowers cholesterol, helps to
    reverse atherosclerosis

The cholesterol-lowering effects occur only in very large doses which
should not be taken without medical supervision.

    Quoted message said:

OMEGA-6 FATTY ACIDS: Reduces arthritis symptoms, improves skin tone,

Wow, now we're tripple-dipping! Linoleic acid is an essential fatty acid
    *and* an omega-6 fatty acid.

    Quoted message said:

    SILICON: Tightens the skin

    SODIUM: Prevents sunstroke

No it doesn't, people are rarely if ever deficient in it (if anything, they
probably consume too much), and it's an electrolyte which you've already
    mentioned.

    Quoted message said:

SUPEROXIDE DISMUTASE (SOD): Defends against free radical attack

In the cells and the bloodstream, it does indeed do that. What a pity that
it's a protein, and so will be broken down into its constituent amino acids
(all of which you've already mentioned) in the small intestine.

    Quoted message said:

    SUBSTANCE P: Sharpens the mind

It's a neurotransmitter associated with pain. Doesn't sound like something
you'd want to consume, except that it's a polypetide and, like SOD, will be
    broken down into amino acids.

    Quoted message said:

THIAMINE (VITAMIN B1): Reduces fatigue, improves mental attitude,

It sure sounds more impressive when you mention the same ingredients
several times by referring to them both specifically and generically.

Note that if I didn't comment on any particular nutrient, it just means
that I didn't feel like doing so; it doesn't mean that I accept the claim
    associated with it.

Thanks for your consideration. The amino acids are essential for our good
    health.
They used to be easily obtainable in our food supply 60 years ago.
    Unfortunately
they no longer exist in our nutrient depleted food source, anywhere near the
    amount
that we require for our health. If you aren't supplementing your diet, you

Can I assume that you're also going to assert that people no longer consume

You had better be supplementing. Doctors aren't trained to know. Wholistic

Dave, you have admitted already that you are ignorant of the sciences of
biology and nutrition. Yet here again, you are making scientific statements
that are patently false. Why don't you stay up there on your spiritual plane
and discuss spiritual matters, and leave science alone?

The amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. When you eat protein
containing foods, your digestive system breaks them down into their
constituent amino acids, which are then absorbed into the bloodstream and
delivered to your cells where they are reassembled into other proteins.
Protein-containing foods are just as available now as they ever were. They
are needed in quantity. Even if those blue-green algae pills were pure
protein, the quantity of amino acid in them would be insignificant. Have a
bowl of beans instead. There are PLENTY of amino acids in that. A piece of
cheese or a nice pork chop would be even better.

More to the point, What constitutes a healthy diet or what exactly is a

    Cheers, Rod.

If you want to learn about nutrition, there are plenty of good books on the
subject. If you are only after a healthy diet, just eat a wide variety of
foods; try to include at least five servings of vegetables and fruits every
day; and limit 'empty calories' such as soft drinks and concentrated sweets.
It's that simple. Variety is the key. It only becomes complicated if you
limit your diet in some way. If you become a vegetarian, for example, then
you have to pay more attention to the nutritional content of the foods that
you do eat to assure that you are getting enough of the amino acids and B
vitamins that are abundant in meats but limited in vegetable sources. Pay no
attention to Dave's nonsense about food no longer containing the nutrition
it had sixty years ago. He just want's to scare you into buying his product.
The food at your local grocer's contains all the nutrients you need.
