Hello everybody. With the time changing and the days becoming shorter when do you get on the road and log the miles? Early before sunrise, during lunch hours, after work, days off, weekends? I work 12hr shifts and usually when I get home I'm exhausted. I wish I could ride everyday, but with work and the wife I only get to ride on my days off. (I have a lot of week days off) So what's is everybody routine?

Lately, I carpool to work with the wife and bike to the gym and then home.
-
I'm currently on night shift and I'm thinking about going for a ride when I get off at 6 am. I just don't want to fight the rush hour traffic that is going to work.
-
I ride to and from work everyday. 🙂
I love it! It's only a 10 minute commute, but it gets the heart pumping in the morning. -
I wish I could ride to and from work. It's not to bad about 14 miles each way, but my employer won't allow me too. You have to have a "reliable" form of transportation and I guess to them a bicycle is not "reliable" enough.
-
I also love to ride. I can only ride on the weekends near in our village🙂

How do you cope with the whole before food thing? I take it you're not training hard?I need to eat beforehand.

I work 10-12hr shifts 3 nights a week. (Wed, Sat, Sun) I bike 5 miles to work and 5 miles back. On my days off I log 40mi rides as long as the weather is passible (le no snow or freezing rain) I always tell people that I am the only crazy man to biking in the single digits or colder. I usually get between 100-150 miles every week.

Years and years of training, my friend. Training hard? My resting heart rate was down to 42. In Tucson on a good Saturday, I was cycling up and down Mt Lemmon (from 2500 ele to 9100 ele). It's an hour's ride to get to the Mt. Then I'd come home, sleep 3-4 hours and do a Bike-taxi from about 9pm-2am. Sometimes one or two people would ride, sometimes six. I snapped a rickshaw in half the first year I did it, so I'm not sure of how much I was capable of pulling. It was over 1,300 pounds and they were drunk college kids jumping around which makes the weight a [censored].
Funny how you can eat 6,000 to 11,000 calories some days and feel like you haven't eaten anything.. like while you're eating you think, "I should eat something, I'm getting hungry." So THAT's how getting up and cycling on an empty stomach for a couple hours is not-that-big-a-deal. Also, remember gluconeogenesis, your body's ability to make glucose when needed.

Whenever possible.

Thats a pretty solid week, it'd be great being able to get the weeks work done in 3 days shame about losing your weekends though. -
I ride when ever I'm in the mood. Since I retired I have all day to jump on the bike, work always got in the way.
-
I ride on the weekend mornings. Hard to ride on weekdays because of work.
-
Whenever the weather allows. Anything below freezing is very uncomfortable for me. Can't seem to keep my feet warm.
-
Excellent posts to read it up and keep going on this way.

At what rate can the body convert fat to glucose? are you on a low carb diet? -
When it's freezing outside I'll wear wool socks and wrap my toes in aluminum foil. It always helps me
-
I really hate the cold outside because I sweat a lot (I really mean "a lot"😉. Even with hightech clothes I start to freeze while riding downhill. Short runs right before lunch is the best for me. (and 14 day training camp on Gran Canaria 🙂 )
