  1. HI,

I keep getting attacked by a pesky bird every time i ride up a certain
hill. Its managed to draw blood a few times, and I must look pretty
stupid riding along waving my arm above my head.

Would I be within my rights to carry a tennis racquet and smacking it?
or is there some nice man from the government who will come and take it
away. I'd rather not kill it.

Anyone got any bright suggestions? or should I just keep doing the one
    hand hill climb?

Consider painting big eyes on the top of your helmet. They will never
    swoop
while you are looking at them, and it might be fooled. Seriously!

No, as tempting as that is, it will actually have the opposite affect and
make it more likely to attack you (and anyone or anything that looks like
you) even more aggressively next time. Relocating them is a last option.
Because they're teritorial another one will just move into its place and it
    could be worse!

    Your best options are:
    1. to find another route for the next month or so.
    2. If you can't do that then find it and keep eye contact (they prefer to
    attack from behind)
    3. Attach a heap of zip ties or similar to your helmet so you look like a
purcupine. This won't stop the bird swooping but is usually enough to worry
it enough so it doesn't strike.

Easiest solution is ride a different way for a while....I tried many remedies but they do not work. Also evidence suggests if the bird "disappeared" another would step in....

Rumour has it the testicles o magpies expand by 100 times....which makes me ask would you not get narky?

  7. Gee!!! Testicles x 100? Where any Magpies evident on stage 17 of the TDF?
Say in the underpantle region of 'The chin'?

Maybe we should send them all on the TdeF...

Sounds a bit like frustrated bogans in hot cars. There are easier ways
to get your rocks off, boys.

The other day I "caw"-ed at a magpie that was swooping riders, on the
cyclegaine course. You know, the kind of noise a crow makes? I didn't
    get swooped.

    Tamyka Bell. Bird whisperer.
Did you flap your arms too? If only I was there with my handycam - it'd be the easiest $500 I've ever made.

As an eye witness, I can report it was not Tam caw-ing that frightened it off.
It was Lotte with her shottie 🙂

None of the above - a 4:10 is a shotgun. You aim in front of the target & the
    victim flies into the shot.
