  1. Need some advise on some wheel upgrades? Riding a Trek 1400 with Bontrager Select rims and hubs. Don’t really like them. I would appreciate if anyone could give me some Ideas on some good up grades with out breaking the bank. Also any good Ideas on well prices carbon bars. Thanks.😕

  2. Have you thought about Fulcrums (I assume you ride a Shimano equipped bike)? Although a pair of nice rims, a la mavic or ambrosio, built up with the best hubs you can afford by a good wheelbuilder will be way better than anything 'boutique' in terms of reliability and servicing for less money.

Shimano Ultegra hubs, Sapim Race 14/15 DB spokes, Velocity Aerohead rims with OC rim for rear. Quality of the build is of upmost importance.

In my opinion Mavics are the best! There are many diff. levels that you can go with...you might be able to pick up a Cosmos closeout special. Or you could go with the Mavic Aksium, which I have read is a very solid training wheel.

I wouldn't really recommend going above a Ksyrium Equipe on a Trek 1400, unless you know you won't upgrade anytime soon!

Good luck in getting some new wheels!

    +1

Nice option for a set of quality wheels. You can't go wrong with Campagnolo backing it.

I just purchased a Mavic wheelset - the popular SL. I was looking at the HED JET 50, but got turned off by price. The HED website listed - apparently an old price. When I went to get quotes from my local bike shops all of them came back higher than the price shown on HED's website. The shops told me that they called HED and HED told them that that was an old price - not good anymore. Well, isn't that strange. You know the info is wrong but you still leave it there for everyone to view. Oh well.

One last thing. Mavic doesn't offer its customers any online contact information which I find strange. I know they want you to go to an "authorized dealer" to have your questions answered. Well, that's all well and good, but what does "authorized dealer" tell me. Heck I had to buy the wheels to find out what the warranty would be. That's the warrant that comes with it. Of course Mavic offers an MP3 upgrade - that's posted on their website. Only $-- more. Customer service what does that really mean. I think it means do you like the wheels because they look good on your high cost machine.

I looked at them briefly. The are good looking. Have fun. How much did you pay?
