That's something that just struck me, now you mention it - even though half the wheels made are still in inch sizes, all spokes are measured in mm. I remember working in a shop that had a cabinet with pigeonholes for all the different spoke sizes you would need, and some of them still had fractional imperial measurements under the new metric sizes (10 15/16" et. c) written next to them. They obviously weren't sure which way it was going to go for a while - or maybe there was some mythical old wheelbuilder who just couldn't convert . . .
