  1. Wheel balancing is good becouse it makes you go fsater. I
got a bike from the supermrket, some idiot had left it
propped outside by the trolleys, and it came away dead easy,
and it has got a speedo. I couldnt make it go very fast, so
i had a look at the wheel in front, and it had got a metal
wait on one of the spokes. I thort this mite be making the
weel unbalanced cos ther wasnt one on the back, so i took it
off, but that broke the speedo, so i put it back on. Another
dat there was a bike at the supermarket that had a wait on
liike the one on my new bike so i took it off and put it on
my bike on the other end of the weel to balance it better,
and it works very ver well, cos now i can go abot twice as
fast, and the speedo sez so to.

    Morton,

It's still unbalanced. Tri liberting to mor and put them at
90 degres to the furst to. Yor new bik wil go for times as
    much faster than befor.

But for perfect balance you'll need one on each spoke. Then
you'll really fly! I'm not sure how it works, to be honest,
but I think it might be something to do with the gyroscopic
effect of the extra weight on your wheel.

I though it was the magnetism. I seem to recall the benefit
only exists when travelling North - South.

You can get rid of half the spokes as well. You only need
the pulling spokes which are working with you - the pushing
ones are working against you so get rid of them and you will
go much faster. Sheldon explains the details on

But you can't ever brake of course, or your wheel collapses.
Luckily many cycle routes are uphill and against the wind in
both directions, which is not only when you can use the
power wheels, but when you most need them.

Getting rid of all of them is a bit tricky unless you switch
to radial lacing, but that loses the pulling ones too.

Of course it is. Any fool knows that whereas car balance
weights are generally made of lead the bicycle ones are
small magnets to assist riding north, which is always uphill
(unless you're one of those weirdos who rotate their map
when riding south or live in the southern hemisphere). The
danger is when they are fitted to all the front spokes and
all the rear spokes after carefully ensuring the polarity is
correct and then some moron re-fits the front wheel
incorrectly and the two wheels are pulled to one another
    causing catastrophic frame collapse.
