I'm not sure it is totally necessary to have an interest in cycle
racing in order to be a bike rider.

Everybody who has watched the TdF (and that includes me) has been a
bike watcher not a bike rider. We have been wasting time watching
other people ride bikes which we could have spent riding bikes
ourselves.

I'm still pleased I watched it though. :-)

I'll give a real answer. I think it's great. Floyd seems like a nice
genuine guy and he's put in his time and deserves a win. It made me happy.

Been there, done that. Floyd rode very well for Lance in 2004. He'll
probably stick with Phonak. Lance's boys have enough potential, they
just need to realize some of it.

Over in r.b.r., there's a thread discussing Flandis' downhill skills.
Someone suggested he "set the tires" like a mtb-er does. It looked to me
like a typical quick COG change made possible by the tight handling of a
good racing bike.

His ride into Morzine was nice, but if you want to see a true artist at
work, find a copy of the 2002 Giro d'Italia. During one late stage,
Paolo Savoldelli (one of the current Discovery riders), rode himself
into second place on a downhill section, a feat almost unheard of. The
footage is superb. If you find a copy, please let me know.
