Hi guys!!
I'll just let you know a bit about myself. I'm 36 mesaure 185cm, weigh 180 lbs!!!!π
Im biking at the weekends and am feeling stronger by the day. I just wanted to know what sort of things I should be doing to improve my general riding skills, strength, stamina, endurance etc.
I know I'm a little over weight and I'd like to redce this, thats one of the main reasons for starting again after about 16years away from cycling.
I currently ride about 70km on a Saturday and 35km on a Sunday and average 25km per hour , candance of about 80.
Any advice would be greatπ

A. Just ride and have fun.
B. Add some rides during the week, even if they are short and sweet.
C. Just ride and have fun.

Ride further, ride faster, ride with a faster cadence... π

Do lots of gym weight training and ride powercranks.
(just kidding!!):p π π
think about joining a group to ride with sometimes and learn from more experienced riders. Or find a buddy to train/ride with - good for motivation.
Consider enrolling in a bike skills course.
Set yourself a goal (like doing a century by the end of the year or enter a group tour ride) and work towards getting fit enough for something you'd like to achieve.
visit your local bike race track/circuit and see what goes on there - you might get the bug!

You need to ride 3 times a week to make progress I don't think Saturday and Sunday is enough. If you are targeting weight loss long endurance rides (all day pace) are better if you are looking for more power keep the rides under 4 hours but go atleast at Tempo pace(requires concentration to keep from sliding back to endurance) but no faster than FTP (if you can't take a swig from your water bottle slow down a bit).

Thanks for that advice guys, sometimes I cant take that long "swig",perhpas i'm over doing it!!!
I'll try a couple of mid week outings too, would 50km on each mid week run be enough?
Thanks guys, great forumπ -
Thats a good ride I ussually do my mid week rides on the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine because outdoor rides are only about 50% quality time with a power tap (so I'm told) and even worse without one and I don't have much time after work. The KK speed to power computer lets me zero in on that 91% FTP target and I am done in about an hour and 15 minutes.

If your too busy during the week to get out and ride while it is light out, try getting a trainer for your bike and maybe some spinervals dvds. I don't have enough time during the week with work and school, but these DVDs give me a deacent work out.

It wouldn't hurt to read the advice of some world class cyclists in a book like, "Serious Cycling", by Ed Burke. Fitting the bike to you, training, and diet are all included.

Thanks, once again for all the advice. As regards the indoor training that was mentioned, I have seen the tacx stuff and the imagic material but its a bit pricey!!! Any ideas for starter level budget trainers?π
Thanks
