The Pearl Izumi top of the line shorts. I think they cost about $100. They're the best I've ever
seen and last forever.

I'm wearing the UltraSensors even as I type. I own a pair of the MicroSensors, but I can not tell
the difference between the MicroSensors, which are top of the line and the UltraSensors, which are
second from the top of the line -- and my wallet can. If you opened up my bike clothing drawer
(don't you have one?), you'd find something like five UltraSensors, and one MicroSensor. In the wash
is a pair of Trico gel shorts I bought on clearance on a lark.

The current top-of-the-line PI are $200, Microsensors are $120, Ultrasensors are $80. I love PI
pads, but other than that most shorts seem made of the same stuff. Besides an old pair of
Ultrasensors and a lower model (Quest, Attack?) I have a couple of pairs of PI shorts made from a
very different material. They're stretchy just like regular Lycra, but the fabric is thicker and has
a rough texture. I think they were made for the MTB market and don't seem to be available any more.
These are my absolute favorite shorts. If anyone knows anything like these still available I'd
appreciate the tip. I tried some Voler shorts recently (www.velowear.com), they're nice for the
money, the pads are bulkier than the old-style PI, and I find they're a bit too abrasive for really
long (> 3 hr) rides.

i've got a pair of sugoi technifines that have held up great including as 1 of 2 on a cross-country
tour .. the other was a high zoot castelli that i didn't end liking as much (as per the castelli,
buying shorts on tour is like shopping on an empty stomach)..

sugoi makes great stuff, btw. i've never tried their jerseys (i like wool there) but i can't say
enuf about their shorts and jackets.

I guess I didn't pay attention to their name. The ones I am talking about have the seams "flat
felled" instead of being like seams on the sides of Levi's, for example. I think the pad was shaped
different, too between the ones I like and the next model cheaper. The pad seemed to be smaller, so
it wasn't like wearing a diaper around....

And, yes, I do have, uh, 2 bike clothing drawers. One is just for socks and headbands.

I've tried the UltraSensors, MicroSensors, Assos EVO edition, and their Fl-13 (too thick for my liking) in addition to a few other brands that have already been mentioned, and have settled on the Voler shorts. (Just seem to feel best for me).

There's a 976 # devoted to this, but it'll cost ya $2.99 a minute.

For my purposes (35-50 mile club rides, several centures a season, numerous metrics and such), both
Boure and Voler work fine for me. And I just discarded several pairs of worn-out shorts (after 3-4
seasons) from LL Bean, likewise just fine at an affordable price. --Roy Zipris

My favorites are a pair of Nashbar bibs that I bought for $39.99 on sale and a pair of Volers. I've
used more expensive shorts, but these are my favorites. I also use a pair of Andiamo padded briefs
under regular shorts and find them very comfortable. Smokey
