Will be nice to hear about Roche eating crow. Roche wasn't half the racer Tyler is.

I saw a quote attributed to Roche today after Tyler's win. "It turns my stomach."

OK...how do you figure?
Roche was complaining about perception. Nothing he said had anything to do with how well or poorly
Tyler was expected to race.Roche accomplished more in 1987 than Tyler has his whole career. Tyler seems to be a great character
but I don't see how anyone can argue that Tyler can compete with Roche's palmares. Roches remarks
had no impact on his race history, just the way people will think of him. -

Roche was complaining about perception. Nothing he said had anything to do with how well or poorly
Tyler was expected to race. That's true. But Roche was downright asinine on his comments towards Tyler's continued racing after
that bad crash. What the hell does Roche know about Tyler's drive & ambition? Your pro career is too short to have
most of a year taken away and quitting because of a Stage One (predictable) pile-up.Quoted message said:

Roches remarks had no impact on his race history, just the way people will think of him.Roche had great palmares, better than the vast majority who race. He should have known better than
to speak/emote stupidly on Tyler Hamilton. What Tyler has done is GOOD for the Tour in the long run.

understand a little o his motivation for saying what he did. There may have also been some
jealousy there.Quoted message said:

I think I agree with you, but I won't say that there is not any possibility of some negative
consequences. My conclusion is not in agreement with Stephen but I understand his point. -

A slightly more veiled attempt to suggest that the medication being given to Tyler is
significantly more than just a few aspirin, OR that some other form of boosting has taken place
(and Roche knows about
it) OR he is just shooting his mouth off? -

Roche has some unpleasant memories from his ride with the '83 Peugeot TDF team. Pascal Simon rode
for days in the yellow jersey with a broken collar bone, finaly abandoning while still in yellow
after getting dropped on the L'Alpe d'Huez stage. Fignon took the lead for good that day. Simon's
efforts to continue were controversial because some thought that team support would be better spent
on Phil Anderson who was also in contention. Perhaps it was the suffering that he recalls, perhaps
it was Simon's vanity, but I expect this experience has influenced his opinions on Hamilton. I don't
agree with him on Hamilton, but am willing cut him some slack on this.Bret

Steven Roche has always had something of a dark side. Look at his history with former team support
personel. If you read his autobiography, you'll also see that he can be very opinionated. For
example, his views on the wearing of sunglasses are rather rigid but amusing."Precious Pup" <[email hidden]> wrote in message "]news:[email hidden]...

more of a dumbass? I would think that any painkiller good enough to really help Tyler would also
leave him flat on his back, or at least hardly in racing condition. OTOH, maybe they've never given
me the Really Good [censored]. (I could use some right now actually.)At the time of his first comments, the Pascal Simon incident might have been on his mind, but since
then CSC has won three (!) stages, so I guess it hasn't been _that_ bad for the team. -

I was responding to,
"A slightly more veiled attempt to suggest that the medication being given to Tyler is
significantly more than just a few aspirin, OR that some other form of boosting has taken place
(and Roche knows about
it) Or he is just shooting his mouth off?"If Tyler was taking an unauthorized pain killer or impermissible amounts of an allowed substance, it
would have shown up in one of his drug tests.zeno
