We're going out for dinner tonight. Methinks we'll go to one of my fave old hangouts, Cafe Balaban. It'll be fun to be in the old neighborhood again. I used to live just a couple of blocks from Cafe Balaban. Morel Mushrooms are in season and they serve them with this dreamy white sauce. I'll also have my old standby, the Tuscan salad. I'll see what the seafood specials are and if I don't like what I hear, I will order the half duckling which is very good. It's too hot for the beef wellington tonight. What is everyone else doing?

I see they have Barramundi on the menu. I'd be very tempted to try that. We had it a few times in Australia and it was fine. I wonder if it's going to be showing up on more of our restaurant menus here in the U.S.? -aem

Is that the place that looks very "French" and is just a half - block or so away from that bar the Loading Zone?
The menu looks very good BTW...
No, you are thinking of my friend Leon Bierbaum's restaurant. It's called Chez Leon. Cafe Balaban is the opposite end of Euclid from Chez Leon. Cafe Balaban sits right next to my fave pub, Dressel's Pub. Balaban is caddy corner to Rothchild's, across the street from Cafe Zoe. Leon now owns The Loading Zone. I have not been to "The Zone" in several years. I had a very unfortunate experience one evening when Freddie owned "The Zone." He cut my shorts off with a pair of hedge trimmers.
Michael -- This is just too much fun to play with. The link is too long. It's on the NetZero site so the Tinylink below is safe. Take a look see.

I have yet to try it. I'm not in the mood to experiment today so I'll go with some of my old standbys. We'll see if Barramundi gets popular in the US. What is the texture and taste of Barramundi?

Lol...
I used to spend a lot of time there in the early - mid 90's when I visited St. Louis. I always liked the "Big Girl" drinks (is there any other kind!?). We may have "seen" each other there -- who knows?
I do like that CWE area, especially some of those "semi - private" streets around there with the grand homes...
Thawing out an wild Puyallup River Rock I shot last year and was thinking about some stone soup.
Anyone care to come by for a taste? bring a little sumpasumping to throw in the pot.

We probably have but just don't know it. Nothing worse than a hangover from continuous rounds of "Big Girl" Grand Marnier cocktails from the night before.

I loved it there. Always something going on and I knew hundreds of people there. Sometimes I miss it but would not give up my gardens here for anything.

Careless BUMS! I read no further.
Might bring it to their ttention. 😉
Or not,
Andy
There are a couple of mis-spelled words on the menu and I sent an email pointing them out. They will fix it. They do not have a webmaster and whoever manages their web page is probably an employee.
Michael <- Thinking Andy knows full well it meant cheese 😉

Michael,
Thinking correctly. It just triggered my old proofreading days.
All the best,
Andy <- Who never proofread my own work.
P.S. Sorry for thinking your dog a cat. Cool dog! --A
Tonight it's oven cooked spareribs in a homemade 5 spice powder, hoisin, fish sauce, sherry and chilli sauce glaze ...Probably brocolli as a side and rice If I feel like cheating. The Ribs have been cooking 2.5 hours now @300F...the first 1 hour tightly wrapped with minimal seasoning (salt and pepper) to aid steaming....They should be done in about 15 minutes.
This is a new attempt by me to get a home made oriental rib with sauce type meal, that rocks...The sauce before brushing on the ribs tasted great.
