  1. I wonder if we could start a thread that lists the culprits that people have
found make them stall on low carb woe. People have listed some of these
things here and there in response to other posts, but I would love to get
more feedback, and all in one place. Thanks for your help!

    Cottage Cheese
Wine (even dry, low carb wine)
Too many dairy products (probably the lactose)
    Tomatoes
    Avocados
    The wrong types of nuts

    But mostly, underestimating calorie intake,
    and overestimating calorie needs... ;-)

For me my major stalls were caused by:

    Staying too low in carbs.
    Maintenance.

One of those is positive - What is Maintenance but a long
    planned stall?

  9. It's virtually impossible for anyone to tell you what makes them stall.
Weight loss can apparently stop periodically for any number of
reasons, some of which may not even be related to what someone does or
does not eat. For example, if someone stops losing weight, they may
think it was caused by a particular food. However, they may also have
stalled even if they were eating something else. I've had periods
where weight loss stopped and I had not done anything different that
when I was losing weight. The only way to find out what might cause
stalling would be to have a scientific test with a valid control group.

If you can put a bowl of one type of nuts in front of
you, eat a handfull, then do something else for an
hour or so, and you didn't unconsciously eat more of
    them, that's the best type.

    Which nuts are worst?

If you can put a bowl of one type of nuts in front of
you, eat a handfull, then do something else for an
hour or so, and it turns out you unconsciously ate
the rest, that's the worst type.

It's an experiment you need to do for yourself to see
how you react to each type. My personal results are
I tend to over eat peanuts and cashews, but I find it
easy to do portion control on filberts, brazils,
pecans, walnuts. I get mixed results with almonds or
pistachios when I try this. I don't know if I just
like them too much or what, so I only buy those in
    small packages.

Additional stuff - PEAnuts are peas not nuts. Sort
of like pineapples aren't trees with needles, confusing
name. Among tree nuts pistachios and cashews are
higher carb, almonds in the middle, filberts pecans
brazils and walnuts near the bottom and macadamias
are the lowest. It's interesting that my personal
results tend to track carb counts.

  13. none of them are really "bad" if taken in moderation. IIRC, pistacios are
roughly 18 carbs in a cup. Cashews are not bad either.

can't recall the carb count for pistachios, but Macadamia nuts if you can
get them there are great, and peanuts are reasonably low as well

Coffee. Even if I have just half a regular-sized mug in the morning with
breakfast I won't lose a pound, no matter how low in carbs I go. But of
course some people can have small amounts of coffee & not have any
    problems.

    No.

You might want to get a set of food tables (or google for such) and look
at the breakdown of different nuts. Look for the ones lower in starch
    and highest in fat.

    Cheers!

  18. Eating too much sodium.

One of my favorite things is buffalo wings, which are generally LC, but
usually high sodium. A local chain restaurant has a special on b-wings
on Tuesdays, and I will occasionally go buy a very large bucket (100
pieces) for consumption the rest of the week. I find that I hold water
that week, probably due to the sodium. I do not radically increase
caloric intake, nor do I change anything else in my routine. Therefore,
it must be the wings. Or the baseball (wings go with tv baseball).

-Hollywood, who should see better results once the Cardinals finish the
    season.
(NOTE: I am a Yankees fan, but they are done already, and when in
    Rome...)

  19. If you're just holding water, you're not stalled. You could still be losing
fat provided you're not eating too many wings, too! 🙂

  20. Nothing has made me "stall" yet. However, this brings up something
that I noted earlier on about "trigger foods":

I like eating almonds. I eat them as part of lunches (usually
combined with a few strawberries, a piece of cheese, something like
that). So, at one point I reasoned, well, mixed nuts would be good.
They're only slightly higher in carbs, right?

Well, it was a disaster. I gobbled through that jar of mixed nuts
like it was a bag of potato chips and I was Tommy Chong at the Cannabis
Cup Awards. I resolved at that point to never buy mixed nuts again. For
some reason I can restrain myself just nicely around almonds. Mixed
    nuts? No way.
