What is it with L-drivers and their instructors?

Talking about Peterborough, have you seen what they have done at the
new development at the town end of Oundle Road? The road does have
an advisory cycle lane at the side, but as it approaches the junction
for the new houses it stops and there is an on-pavement lane with a
metal barrier between the pavement and the road. This turns into the
side-road and then stops - a total of about 15-20 yards on-pavement.
This is repeated the opposite side of the side road.

Pure madness. I can't believe that the planner seriously thinks
that anyone is going to use this facility.

Hey, yes!

I passed that this lunchtime and I'm going to go back with a camera.

Presumably you're supposed to move from the road cycle lane to the
on-pavement one, pass the traffic lights, then rejoin the road. Except
for the huge metal barrier where the pavement-path ends!! So to follow
the markings properly, you then dismount, walk round the barrier, cross
the side road, remount, give way, then continue on your way.

Please email Peterborough's Cycling Development Officer, Toria Leeds. I
think she might be getting tired of the amount of times I email her,
but she always replies.

Incidentally, is there a single driver who knows what to do at the end
of Oundle road. They've removed the roundabout, changed the road
markings, put up give way signs and "priority changed" signs, but not a
single driver appears to be able to cope with this and still treat it
as a roundabout.

No, don't read the ET. I noticed that there was a Travelchoice stand
in Queensgate with a load of Bromptons - I already knew about the
competition to win one.

I guess so. I haven't actually been to Exclusively Bikes, and to be
honest didn't know there was a Brommie dealer in Peterborough - I
have mainly used Terry Wright's in Deeping as I used to get a discount
there through my employer.

Yes this is exactly what I was taught. It was reinforced with a sharp
poke in the arm with his clipboard if you got it wrong as well. You
quickly remembered after a few bruises.
