Yeah, great tactic for LANCE! Simply a tactical mistake by CSC, either
that or they are simply losers by nature.

It called being realistic. Basso can only win if Armstrong crashes, gets
sick or is attack by Bin Laden. Basso will almost certainly lose time on
Alpe de Huez and the flatter time trial (measured in 3 to 5 minutes).
Therefore, CSC needs to secure 2nd, in hopes of Armstrong cracking or
crashing out. Armstrong does not need to chase Ullrich as he is 7 minutes
back. Armstrong could allow Ullrich to gain 2 to 3 minutes and remain
secure. Basso if he hopes to finish 2nd at least, he cannot allow Ullrich
to gain 1 second.

uhhhh... the team competition is based on individual GC. The fact remains
CSC did not need to chase, USPS would have done all the work and had already
illustrated that.

CSC's efforts were a waste of energy. If Voigt would have paced Basso up
the final climb instead, he would have likely dropped Ulrich and Kloden in
an attack, but instead CSC's effort simply insured that the two T-Mobile
riders finished high in the standings creating the slim margin that exists
between them on the team competition.

Team GC is a red herring here. Kloden and Ullrich were the only
T-Mobile riders up front. CSC had 3 - Voigt, Basso and Sastre. Their
times would have counted towards team GC on stage 15.

Armstrong and the Posties. Maybe Basso wasn't feeling in top form and felt

Basso will probably lose 2-3 minutes to Ullrich in the final TT, while
Lance will probably not lose anything at all to Ullrich. If CSC wanted
to protect their #2 podium spot they couldn't let Ullrich get too far
ahead.

he says: no deal but a muteral interest.

Basso says that he felt good and they did it to pull in the brakeaway so
he could go for the stagewin. Unfortunately Sastre was cooked when they
reached the final climb.

who dare therough their own ignorance criticize Riis since they
fail to realize (or truly comprehend and appreciate) that the Tour is
a 3 week (20 stage) race.

Perhaps they were afraid that the Posties wouldn't work their asses
off to catch Ullrich and then Basso's #2 spot would be in danger.
