  1. Travel guru Rick Steves says on one of his websites:
"What to bring:...Bike belt--generally required by law in Europe and
good for giving a multilingual "Hi!".

This is in relation to bike touring in Europe. I searched for
a bike belt but found nothing.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

I think that's a misspelling, and they mean bike /bell/.

    cheers,
    Tom

    Randomness comes in bunches.

  4. Maybe they meant Bike belt -- a truss. Although I don't think it would
be useful for making a credible multilingual "hi!"

Now, turn your head and cough!

Should read: "Lols of lime a lypisls fingers make lillle mislakes."

A bike belt is when you sufficiently annoy your (or someone else's)
bike to the point that it gives you a left hook to the jaw. ;-)

  7. I must say I considered some interesting possibilities for a "bike belt"

[1] Like a seat belt when used in conjunction with a helmet prevents 124% of
bike related injuries and 20% of STD's.

[2] Some sort of tire puncturing device used by law enforcement to end bike
speed chases as seen on LA TV news flashes.

Another one: One for the road, served to a cyclist, just before the bar
    closes.

A contiguous region of the continent inhabited by moralizing, proselytizing
devout believers in the word of the true god of cycling and his son, the
    prophet Lance?

Athletic supporters were initially invented for bicycle jockeys.
"Bike" is one of the earliest makers and is still in the same
    business.

  11. I think you are correct. I noticed several
typos on his site. The rest were obvious.

Very likely in a portion of the Sun Belt that is not contained by the
    Bible Belt.

And you don't think that it might be referring to that invention of the
Italian Olympic track timetrial team a few years ago (give or take a
decade or two)? That was a harness from the hips connecting by wires to
the handlebars to provide a more powerful and anchored pedalling motion.
A bike belt? UCI didn't go for it, let alone the IOC but perhaps some
poor person is still out there plugging it.
    (oops, gave myself away).

Well having cycled in various parts of Europe, I can honestly say I've never
found it to be a requirement to wear a truss and neither has husband or son!

    Cheers, helen s
