On some of the models, you can just go to trekbikes.com, find the bike you're interested in, and change the 2004 [in the address line] to 2005.
I've found myself quite impressed with the matte colors. I'm not one for flashy paint jobs, so the matte finish is definitely right down my alley. Also, one of my favorite colors is green, and the green on the 7100 [looks better in person than on the webpage] is increadibly attractive, . . . . . at least to MY eyes anyway.
I don't really know the answer to that. It seems to be baked on pretty well. I expect it wouldn't scratch any more so than a glossy paint job. But I'm extra careful and the odds of a situation happening which would put the paint in jeopardy is rather low. No 'hard core' riding is being done on this bike.
