  1. I imagine there are some TdF fans in this group. Does anybody have any
insight as to what the Discovery Team, and George Hincapie in particular,
are planning to do? Seems like they are just having a nice ride in the
    countryside this year.

I had the pleasure to meet George, and briefly speak with him, some months
ago. I was a fan before but more so after. What a nice guy and considerate
person he is. Much different from his former team mate (Hint: That guy's
    initials are Lance Armstrong).

I was really hoping Discovery and George would be proving their stuff at the
2006 TdF. Any substantial information on what the plan is would be welcomed.

    As for now, GO FLOYD!!!

    I'm with Floyd.
All the big names seem to have dropped so far down they don't have a
chance. No more Lance dominating so this year it is a free for all.
    Fun watching though.

wait for the alps. 5 to 7 minutes don't mean too much before that.
sure hincapie is gone, 22'53 behind seem definitive...
17 riders within 7 minutes, with the serious mountains coming and
    individual t.t.

According to Velonews, Discovery has given up on the GC. The team is
to weak and far behind to compete for the yellow jersey. They are now
devoting all their energy to breakaways and stage victories, and did
    pretty well today.

Same here. I think that without the same kind of team support lance had, no
one on Discovery really had a chance. Obviously, it wasn't George's week.

It goes go to show how special Lance was, though.

Yeah, I can get with that idea too!

I'm working on it. I thought he was a little defensive and jerky last year
(or was it the one before?) when he broke off to lead his own team. Lost a
/little/ respect for him at the time, but maybe it WAS just defensiveness.

Anyway, I thought going in to this one that he might not handle all the
pressure real well, but I think his necrotic (right term?) hip might just
work in his favor. Gets him the underdog vibe thing, AND it's a good reason
to just say screw it and go all out since his career is potentially
    threatened. Nothing to lose.
