What Ftp Does A 170 Lb Man Need To Do A 10 Hour Double Century?

Sorry to hear that you didn't finish. If anything you were spared of some of the worst roads on the course (apart from the crappy back roads section of Lower Chilles Valley Rd.)

If you have exercise induced asthma, carry an inhaler with you. I always do. I rarely need it but weird things can happen especially when you're smashed and you're deep in the grasslands.

If you did finish in 12.5 then that would have been a fairly descent ride. Shaving 2.5 hours off that is a tall order. The easiest way would be to lose a lot of weight - which is much easier than stacking 20 or 30 watts on your all-day-power. It also helps you deal with heat a bit better and saves energy in the hills too. A bit of a win, win situation really.

Clip on bars, a helmet like the Specialized aero road lid and a tight fitting top will knock off a fair amount of time. Interestingly, Specialized did some wind tunnel tests on shaved vs unsaved legs and found about 90 seconds difference saved for the shaved - extrapolate that over a days riding and you might be pulling out the clippers and razor...

Of course roll thru is not the same as stopping. Slowing to 5 mph and looking both ways before going is clearly not stopping. I am not sure how you misunderstood.
Yet you roll thru stop signs and think that is proper.

Hey swampy1970, that's quite the power output you had back in 2011! With an FTP of ~290 watts, it's no wonder you finished the Davis DC course in 12:14, even with rest stops and a lunch break. It's amazing how much power you can generate at a relatively lighter weight.

If you're looking to improve your times or power output, I'd recommend incorporating some high-intensity interval training (HIIT) into your rides. It's a great way to build power and speed, and it can be done both on and off-road. Just be sure to mix in some longer, steady-state rides to build endurance as well.

Keep up the great work, and don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need some advice. We're all here to support each other and share our love of cycling. ‍♂️
