I haven't seen the new series, but my wife and I certainly enjoyed the
last one.

And to those who consider him an "[censored]," at least give him credit
for being an immensely successful one. Unless, of course, you don't
think Michelin stars count.

Gordon Ramsay has upped his already high profile with two more
Michelin stars to his name - bringing his total to 10.

The outspoken chef-turned-TV star has lapped up the honours in the new
2007 Michelin Restaurant Guide.

Ramsay's Petrus restaurant in Knightsbridge, London received a coveted
second star, Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea retained its coveted three star
rating, and La Noisette, also in Knightsbridge, took its first
'macaroon', as the French call the sought-after rosettes.

With 10 stars Ramsay is by far the most-starred UK chef. He is beaten
worldwide only by Alain Ducasse, who has a total of 14 stars spread
around an empire which covers London, Paris, Beirut, Las Vegas, Tokyo
and all points between.

Ramsay's flagship in Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea is one of only
three restaurants to hold three-star status in the UK. The other two
are Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck in Bray, and its near-neighbour the
Waterside Inn, run by Michel Roux.

Elsewhere, critics' favourite Arbutus, winner of Decanter's Best
Newcomer 2006 Award (see February issue for review), and Tatler's Best
Newcomer gong last week, was one of 13 new restaurants to be awarded
their first star.

Other stars went to all corners of the British Isles. Christophe in
Guernsey received its second star, and Atlantic in Jersey got one
star, to take its place in the Guide alongside its one-starred
neighbour the Bohemia bar and restaurant.

In Wales the Crown at Whitebrook was awarded a star, helping to raise
the profile of the Welsh culinary scene.

The Crown joins Plas Bodegroes in Pwllheli, North Wales, as the only
Michelin starred restaurants in Wales. Ynyshir Hall in Aberystwyth has
lost its place in the guide.

The hotel was praised for its 'local produce given an inventive,
modish edge.'

Guide editor Derek Bulmer said he would like to see Wales capitalise
on the Crown's success.

'London has plenty; Edinburgh and Dublin have got stars too, so I
suppose we are looking at Cardiff as the only capital in Britain and
Ireland without one.'

The Michelin Guide 2007 goes on sale tomorrow.

girlfriend complained or something - I forget exactly what the deal
was. I think he didn't want to leave her behind. He's trying to
chef at a place called TaTou in LA, but last I knew they couldn't get

I love it. I know Ramsay is rude and crude but hey, it's television. It
simply wouldn't be interesting if he were mamby pamby polite, "Oh, I'm

I don't know for sure but it sounds to me like he figured he'd just ride on
his "success" at being the winner of the show. I don't think they were
offering cash in lieu of his own restaurant or taking Ramsay up on his offer
of further training at one of his UK restaurants.

If you like the show, you may want to check out his other show Kitchen
Nightmares, where he'll basically go and try to help a fledgling
restaurant with a "makeover". That's a great show I stumbled upon on
the Food Network in Canada. Not sure when else it's shown. But I
really enjoyed it. As it's British programming you get the full brunt
of his [censored]-ness.

But what I've found is he is truly helping those people out. Yea,
sometimes his suggestions fail but I think it's more due to the level
of commitment for the restaurant owner.

I, too, prefer that show to Hell's Kitchen. Sure he's an assshole, but
maybe being that is what made him what he is.....can you see him bowing and
scraping, yess'mum and no'mum to someone who's made a complete [censored] of
theirown business. He is cruel, he is mean...but have you seen some of what
passed for managers and kitchen staff in that show? He shook it up, and as
the old saying goes, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen...
His playing profession (British)football helped mold this attitude, they
take no [censored] from anyone especially not the "oh, dear the steam wilted my
hairdo in the kitchen today' crowd.

PS: My fav Ramsay moment, can't remember the show it's from, is when he

He also has a show called the F Word.

On HK whenever they show him away from the kitchen he seems much more
personable. I think a lot of the a**holishness is in front of the
camera. I'm sure he is an a** a lot of times and does yell at people
but I think it is very much exaggerated for HK.

On the F Word he has turkeys that are all named after other chefs. They
raise them and then slaughter them for Christmas I think. Then they
raise pigs. Ramsay seemed to get more attached to the animals than his
kids.

I'm not saying you have to be a total a** but being a wimp gets you nowhere.
OT: when I was 21 I wanted to get away from being a waitress. I had all the
requisite skills for office work at the time - typing, 10-key by touch, etc.
I kept being turned down because I had "no experience". I finally got fed
up. I replied to an ad in the paper that said "Experienced only need apply"
and the job was for a receptionist answering phones and scheduling
appointments, not even requiring typing! I wrote a cover letter that said
something like, "When you get tired of looking for someone with all that
experience, give me a call." Heh. They didn't hire me as a receptionist;
they hired me to be the secretary to the director of administration. They
admired my approach. I stayed with that company for 8 years, through a
corporate takeover and then some, and moved up several positions before
moving on to another job. Moral of the story: Being a wimp won't
necessarily get you very far 🙂
