Take a few days off until the cold wears off. Cycling with a cold doesnt do you any good, it only makes it worse.

I have found that riding at the trailing end of a cold helps break up all the garbage in your head and lungs and REALLY cleans you out. Afterwards, you feel great and get over the cold faster....but thats just me.
Try a few different things and post the results.

with the cold i have now when it was getting to the end, i went on a few, not to fast, 20-25 mile rides and it made me feel better but seems like it kept the cold around a few days longer.

I was speaking to a chap the other day who immediately ate garlic, whole cloves of it - apparently the next day, no cold.... not GF, no friends, no-one to lunch with heh

I agree with Marty_Vee, I had a cold recently and after going out for a long and hard ride, any and everything that was left in my chest was gone. Otherwise, a lot of Vitamin C and lots of water seemed to help.

I was caught in a cold, hard-driving thunderstorm a few couple weeks ago and wound up with pneumonia. Doctor said it was ok to do short commutes (3 miles) but no long rides until things cleared up. Feeling better now, but Dr. appointment, weather, and vet appointments for my dog have kept me off my bike this week. Hope to start riding tomorrow. It's been driving me crazy not to be doing my usual rides.

Yeah- Garlic is a very strong antibiotic in it's own right...but I am an Italian Male. When I get a cold, as my forefathers before me did, I sit on the couch in my drawers and tell my beloved wife that the end is near. She responds by running to and fro fetching me whatever I need, regardless of the moaning and groaning. All Italian men seem to do this, and for some reason, they keep finding women that will marry them 🙂

I've been sick with pneumonia for a while now. I've had it for a month. When I breath in you can hear it in my lungs. However I can't stop cycling, and I haven't. It's finnaly going away now though.

I've talked to two different doctors about this same issue, and they both gave me the same response: If the cold is in your head (stuffy nose, clogged head, etc.) feel free to ride at lower intensity, if the cold is in your chest (hacking cough, wheezing) don't ride until it goes away. I don't always follow the suggestions, but that's what I've been told. Keep riding!

When i get a cold I stop cycling beyond what is necessary everyday, and I stop running altogether.
Also, I go to the steam sauna at a local pool, you know with the eucalyptus and whatnot they add to the steam. Not only does the steam do wonders for the cold symptoms, but there's something about raising my body temperature that seems to help "cook" the bad germs off. Excercising can also do that, but it does seem to make recovery time longer if I push myself when sick.
Garlic is good.
