  1. I'm wondering what others do whilst out on there bikes, in order to train.?

is it a matter of pedal pedal and pedal some more, or do you have specific drills thats you adhere to during your training sessions.

It depends on your goals, abilities and deficencies. Coaching is a good start if you want to add structure. What works for me will only be of limited help to you - unless you have identical knowledge, motivation, ability and goals. I'd say we don't.

So really you have no helpful information on training drills, that can be performed to make rides alittle more fun.

I didn't ask what works for anyone, i asked what people do to add structure and make just pedaling a little more fun, i was by no means asking what drugs you use to improve your performance, just training drills, e.g one legged intervals to help improve pedal stroke, spinning to increase lactate threshold, hill climbs, stomps etc...

so your main interest isn't to perform at your best and give 110% max effort, or is it you perform above your best with the aid of performance enhancing drugs and you don't need to train since the drugs do everything you need for you?

Why would you be suggesting that Roadie Scum is using drugs? What's he ever done to you?

Cause allegedly he is better than me, and his information on performing better is not to be shared, i presume he thinks he could be discredited for his abilities if he shares his information, must be doing something if he can't share?.

I didn't pick that up from this thread. You and he must have had an exchange elsewhere. All I'm reading in this thread is that everyone is different and has different goals and thus requires a different training regimen.

  7. Right now I am just going out riding for the fun of it. No training plan, no goals.
But for me, that means I still do plenty of sprints. It's always fun to close in on a car that passed you 15 seconds earlier, while going 42mph after a tiny downhill. (Yesterdays ride is still fresh in my mind)
Or holding off traffic behind you while going the speed limit on a highway.

  8. I do hill (3 mi., 7% grade, 2-3X) intervals 2X a week spinning to and from the climb. I also do 1.5 -2 hrs ride with moderate effort (although I sometimes open up the throttle) 2X a week and I also do long rides on a weekend 3-4 hrs. I try to stick to the schedule but it really depends on my priorities and how I feel. If I ca't ride during the day light, I hit the trainer and follow one of the Spinervals training video.

well i have just found out that my tyres are past there replacement date, the last 2 occassions that i have been out on my bike i have received puncture, and my tyre has felt as if it was flat when cornering. but today i found out why, after plodding along at my 21mph warmup, i could feel the wheel sliding from side to side, instantly i thought ohh no not another flat. but as i have got to the service station it decided that was it and was going to deflate entirely. turns out the tread had seperated from the tyre, last time i purchase continental grandprix any ideas of a better more reliable tyre.?.

so unfortunately i didn't get to the point of any sprints, bummer! maybe tommorrow, i have just change my tyres for those of my spare training wheels. hopefully they will be suitable until i get some new ones.

I usually do training as in spinning, one legged intervals, stomps, multiple hill climbs, sprints, and longer rides over the weekends and days off work including decents and cornering at speed. i'm trying to avoid training in the gym! I was hoping that someone could give me some ideas on what i could do to add to my training sessions, since the weather is going to be getting very poor soon and i don't want to be limited to spinning over the winter months.

different regimns, yes i agree, and maybe 1 or 2 ideas could be encorporated into my regimn weather they work for me or not, would that not be for me to try and decide for myself, but since he doesn't want to help or has no training ideas.. why bother replying,.

i did that the other day, a bus overtook me doing 24mph <the bus, so i overtook the bus at 30+mph.. lol which i got abused for from the bus driver " are you f&%king mad over taking buses, get off the road you f&%king lunatic".. i found it difficult containing my laughter at the next set of lights listening to her abuse........lol 😄 ain't cycling fun

  11. go buy the book heart rate monitor book for cyclists. There are some great drills in there.

And just for the record, i think roadie_scum hit the nail head on. I think you just took his reply the wrong way.

    Quite frankly, [censored] you.

I have never and will never use a prohibited method or substance under the WADA code, nor do I engage in illegal race tactics. Where the hell do you get off accusing me of this sort of thing??? I have counselled a close friend on the cusp of the professional ranks against using illegal methods. You don't know me. You don't understand sport. I try to help you, you kick me in the face.

I don't tell everyone the precise details of my training and pre/in-race nutrition in a public forum. Why would I? I spend a lot of my time training, and a lot of my time trying to get every advantage possible combing the literature, making sure my nutrition is optimal, examining possible legal ergogenic aids. Why would I make my efforts worthless by telling everyone? I am, however, happy to answer questions generally and I hope I can be a reasonable contributor to people's understanding of this wonderful sport.

I also have no evidence that I am better than you (and given your reluctance to race I will probably never find out).

You may find this helpful -

Here's a list of things I don't do: weights, one legged pedalling drills, supplement BCAA's, MCT's, carnitine, creatine.

Here's some things I do: train VO2max, LT, endurance. Eat a wide variety of fresh foods. Eat a lot of CHO while exercising. Race smart. Rest when sick. Balance study and training. Set goals. Show respect.

I am sorry, i don't for one minute really think that you are using any performance enhancing substancs, i was merly trying to provoke a responce from you in the terms of training.

its was your secrecy towards your training drills, i am trying to find some drills that i can encorporate into my training regime, i find it a good method of provoking a response and gather a little bit more information.

my intentions weren't to upset you in anyway shape or form, it may have been a little rude, but thats my nature.

I have just starting to use stomps, this is helping me on the flats at the minute, during hill climbs i have found that i can improve the strength of my pedaling by stamping really hard on the pedals, this i find is helping me improve the strength of my pedalling for long flat parts of my ride.

I hope you will accept my appolology, as i Quote roadie scum is dedicated to his training and trains hard.

i try to use L glutamine, instead of creatine, i use 6 tablets that i disolve in water with a carbo sport drink, i have tryed mixing the 2 creatine and L glutamamine works great but i find that Deoralyte and L glutamine works better during longer rides, than creatine.

i just picked on the choice of words,

    defiences
    1) The act or an example of defying; bold resistance to an opposing force or authority.
    2) Intentionally contemptuous behavior or attitude; readiness to contend or resist.

he didn't type that ohh no, deficiencies, My reading sucks......:o :o :o :o

Reluctance to race, are you in the UK! fancy an afternoon out at manchester velodrome........................................... just to see?.

I really do think that its best to let you mere mortals enjoy your victories, maybe one day i will show the world how us gods perform. 😄 😉

  16. Do yourself a favor and buy a book on training, either that or find one at the library. I'm sure there are some good ones at the library and yes, they might be 10 years old but they are still pretty adequate. You want a book for training, buy Joe Friel's Training Bible or Lance Armstrong Performance Program. Those are pretty solid reputable books and will give you different types of workouts to use for your training.

Btw, you're making lots of enemies here by saying stupid things, don't do that and don't be trying to provoke a response from everyone else by saying stupid stuff. My advice? Read all you can and stop trying to squeeze information out of every cyclist you come across by asking them questions upfront, you learn more by listening and reading than you do by arguing and provoking.

  17. My guess is we've got a youngster in our midst... I don't think any self-respecting adult would talk like that, do you?

The training bible by joel friel is good, you can get a used on from amazon for cheap.

A lot of us here pay for this, and are not willing to give out what we pay for. But if you would like to pay half of my coaching id be glad to share.

again another with nothing to share! why do you bother posting if you have nothing to share with any of us! i find this extremely annoying, the title says what do you do in terms of training!.

didn't ask how many get coached. not interested how many have the funds to pay for coaching, but to help the cyclist that can't afford coaching. Its just interest thats all, if you have nothing to say! then don't say it.

I find that alot have nothing to say on the related topics and qute often say it to loud! but anyway good for you i'm pleased that you can afford some coaching sessions, or have the time to complete a coaching session, i wish you the best of luck.
