What do the riders on the TDF carry in their jersey pockets? I've seen extra water bottles poking out of some of the pockets, but is there anything else?
For that matter, why don't any of the riders have Camelbaks or similar products?

Why camel backs........they get fresh water all the time......why carry a heavy camel back........it's road racing not mountain biking..... Some carry a little food........usually past to them quite frequently during the race too!

camelbacks are great when -might lose a bottle from the bounciing along on a MTB -might not be able to reach down, one hand offa the bars, bouncing around with same MTB or -are in remote area w/o water.
None of these apply to this or most road rides.

Wait until the nasty climbs and you'll see one more reason they prefer water bottles... an excuse for a brief tow, as the rider hangs onto the bottle being passed to him from the car.

A few years ago Coca-cola had a motorcycle that carried water bottles on the back and riders could grab one if they were thirsty. I am suprised that the TDF organization has not started using these motorcycles more...

Well yes, most of the time they have some sort of mini-version of a roadbook for that day's stage. Usually just a piece of paper with the Km's and possible bottlenecks/mountains/etc.

I think most don't have the time or will to pre-ride the route or even study it the day before.
I can't remember the race, but earlier this year the stage leader took a wrong turn very near the finish and lost the race. He followed a motorcycle which was turning off the official course. The organizers tried to turn him around but to no avail. I also think he corrected his error the next day and won that stage.
Last year, Erik Zabel was shown on camera looking at his cheat sheet (I think during the Vuelta), then shaking his head in "mock" dismay. It was a grueling mountain stage.

watch ther coverage, they stil use em, seen em service the break aways a couple of times.. I saw O'Grdy get a Coke from the team car today as

Romandie... Poor course management. May have been Mayo or one of the Spaniards, rode around side streets are a couple of K till he got back on courses.
