That is the Ridgeway proper. The Wessex Ridgeway starts at Avebury and
goes to Lyme Regis. As to whether it is a bridleway or footpath I don't
know. I think that Dorset want it to be a multi-use path so it is possible
you can ride it all.

yes - Dorset council website has details of it's plans, but they're 18 mths
old

In 2000 I tried cycling on the Ridgeway starting in Avebury. My memories are
of chalky soil that became extremely slippery when wet ( it was pouring rain
at the time) and extremely deep ruts left by 4WD vehicles that were just
narrow enough that my pedals would catch on the edges from time to time. I
don't think I got far before I gave up and used small roads to finish the
days journey.
