Well, I live alone with no family, so received absolutely nothing and went
fishing Christmas Day. On the good side, I didn't have to spend any money
on prezzies either.

I got a set of brushes for cleaning the bikes and a copy of
cyclecraft. So it seems I've got a dirty bike and need to learn how to
cycle.

Had the best Christmas present for years! I found the pair of cycling
clips I knew I hadn't lost but just couldn't find! These little
beauties cost me £1.99 a few years back and the thought of replacing
them for that price or even more caused me much angst! They were in an
overcoat I seldom wear - but did on Christmas day!

I am 62 now and when I were lad cycling clips were 4d and 6d for a
posh pair! Two pedals on yer bike! Luxury! We used to borrow two
pedals just to go up hills, take them off and freewheel
........................ etc.

A very succesful trip. Now have a new Met Stradivarius II helmet,
Some rear lights for the ends of my bars, a new bonk bag and 4 very
long valave inner tubes for my tt wheels.

A set of Electron 10/5w lights, a winter care kit (chain cleaner gizmo with
fluids, oil, GT85 and bike polish) and a track pump. Ooh, and best of all -
a packet of cable ties. Multicoloured.

I was told I could count the bike bits I'd bought myself on eBay
as Christmas presents....
(I did get some non-bike related ones as well. And I've just bought a
bike trailer from Wobbly John, via a VeloVision small ad. Well, we've
exchanged emails and are working towards finding a suitable time to me
to collect and pay for it.)

We've just got back from an 11 day narrowboat trip - 94 locks and 74 miles so
it was pretty hard work.
Christmas prezzies were very low key with just 'Secret Santa' token gifts and
it worked very well - a real escape from the nasty commercialism that has
taken over the period.

Christmas Day saw us descending the 12 locks of Bosley near Macclesfield - a

There were a few fishermen and walkers about but the new bikes didn't appear
on the towpaths until Boxing Day.

The weather was superb throughout, except for last Thursday when we were iced
in on the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union and had to plough through
inch thick ice - quite hairy.

But Christmas is *definitely* a time to escape :-))

I was in China for Christmas and, as I am sure everyone knows, China
is an atheist country and the maker of cheap gimmicky toys. This
perfect combination means they have taken to The Great Consumer Fest
like a duck to water.

Santa brought me a wind up dynamo LED torch with an internal
rechargable battery. I wonder how long it will be before they are
available for bikes.
