  1. Took my first clipless ride today with the pedals, shoes and cleats that I sniped on EBay, and I can truthfully report that I made it the entire distance without taking any spills from not releasing in time! 😎

On the flip side, I actually had more trouble snapping back in at a busy intersection while trying to watch the traffic - kept missing trying to line up the front of the cleat where it hooks into the pedal....

  2. did you go with shimano, look, or something else?

  3. Don't worry: your time is coming. It'll happen at an intersection, a red light, with lots of cars waiting to cross. You'll be trying to look suave and trick for the hot chickadee in the Beemer. You'll miss as you go to assertively clip in, thus falling. The worst part will be all of the people who get out of their cars to see if you're ok.

    It happens to everyone.

I went with Look pedals with red (floating) cleats and I got a bargain on a pair of Shimano shoes that will take either SPD or Delta-style cleats.

I was originally looking at Speedplay pedals after seeing a friend of a neighbor with them and the float capability, but those kept getting bid up to more than I can spend. I ended up finding an auction where a seller had a pair of Look pedals with cleats and hardware and a separate auction for a pair of Puma shoes, the seller would have combined the shipping if both items were won by the same bidder. The pedals were a bit vintage, so I did some more snooping and found a pair of Look pedals that were a lot newer, so I ended up going after those instead since they looked more like a pair I had seen on a passerby's bike during the winter, I did some more research and found out how Look cleats are available in float (red) and fixed (black) versions - I need the float because I had some problems with my knees as a teenager.

I got these to replace the Shimano SPD-style pedals that were on the bike when I bought it. Those may end up on EBay or Craigslist soon.

    Actually, that won't happen - I'm married.... 😄😎

    Aint it the truth.

Mine came many years ago riding in the college team kit rolling up to a stop light and casually reaching down to the right to loosen my brand new Alfreda Binda strap securely holding my shiny new leather shoe with nailed on cleats ... only to fall to the left. Yep, right in front of a convertible full of sorority girls. I got the full round of applause and slunk off to quieter roads...

  6. I have only had 2 tip overs with my clipless...the first was being run off the trail by a lady and her 2 dogs...i ended up in soft sand...which stopped me soooo fast. The other was while trying to do a trackstand in an intersection...a solid wind gust tipped me over in front of about 10 cars. Does not get much more embarrassing than when you are being laughed at by a ton of people. Good Luck bud!

  7. Photos of the pedals - took these with my phone, so pardon the low quality please.... 😎

  8. My first 0mp/h crash happened with a covertable full of hot 20 somethings looking at me. Oh yeah I was the man, they roared laughing never even asked if I was ok.😄
