Thanks. I shall pass along your comments to the offspring. He's had a grotty
season in terms of times, as his two crashes put paid to any fast riding,
and the first crash had him off the bike for many weeks. Indeed, he's still
not 100% fit, as his shoulder occasionally 'goes' but the worst are his
hips. Although he didn't break anything, he got big haematoma on both hips
which are still a bit swollen and bruised. The soft tissue injuires seem to
have caused him more hassle than the shoulder breakage. So to do well in the
Rudy Porject series (2nd espoir, 4th senior man) speaks to me, of a huge
positive in terms of his determination to get out there & keep at it rather
than just give it up as a bad job due to a couple of crashes. He's matured
mentally as a rider this year, which is a good thing and he's still enjoying
it which is even better.
Cheers, helen s

Indeed. I know some way how he feels. I crashed and landed on my hip as well
in the rain, finished the race and then went to work the next day. When I
bunny hopped over something in the road it was like I'd been shot in the
groin. I had to drive to work for the only time this year, luckily it just
cleared up one day, but I remember thinking my season was over and being
forced off the bike was horrible.
Still, when people at work mention injuries I reel off a whole host of
sportsmen like Flintoff, Andy Murray, Rooney, Michael Owen, Jonny Wilkinson
etc etc who have the best coaches and so on, who are injured for months on
end, so sometimes it's just down to bad luck. Anyway, hope he gets to 100%
for next season!

He has motivation... he's found out the triathlon club at uni is full of fit
young ladies who can run & swim but require assistance with cycling. He can
cycle but requires assistance with running & swimming. Apparently he's
already been in the gym doing press-ups with the ladies. I have told him
that there are certain things his mother does not need to know about :-)

I wanted to go to Pilates classes to sort out my dodgy back, but you can
imagine how well that has gone down for simliar reasons ;-)

You still need your mother's permission at your age? ;-)

May I also add my best regards to Nathan. I think it is a terrific
achievement -- and his A level results as well, It is nice to hear about a
young man who is getting on with his life in a positive way and enjoying
himself ( triathlon!!)
..I know that when my 2 sons were progressing through this period of growing up
I worried continually at various ups and down they encountered -- and I was
living out in Oman at the time. I am still hugely relieved that they both are
doing so well in their lives. I found out long ago that parents never cease
worrying about their offspring -- my 100 yr old dad still worries every time I
go off on one of my cycling jaunts!
Excellent news Helen!
