Well I won't be riding my bicycle into work for at least a week now. I have for the last two weeks been commuting into town on my bicycle. Ok it took me nearly 6.5 hours for the round trip of 90 miles but I enjoyed the slower pace and I needed to prove to myself and family that the planned recumbent purchase, yes still not bought it yet - had to spend the cash elsewhere, was feasible. This morning I took the motorcycle for a little bit of route fiddling and wammo got smashed up the backside whilst waiting at a roundabout. Strangely despite my not having an I-Pod device I didn't hear the vehicle coming before it hit me! And I had the visor up... I am now at home with a stiff neck and shoulder, the bike may be a write off though so my newly saved cash may disappear again in the short term, sometimes you just don't have any luck - do you?

Hopefully that stiff neck and shoulder will go at least some of the way to buying the recumbent. ISTR I got about 1500 quid for a rear-end shunt in the tin box that resulted in whiplash - I didn't feel too bad on the evening of the accident but the next morning I could hardly get out of bed, and I couldn't look over my shoulder for weeks. It was about this time of year and I had to wear one of those foam neck braces for a while, which was less than comfortable. Don't be brave about it - take time off, get lots of prescription painkillers, get physiotherapy ....

What have you been up to then?
I did get all the relevant bits and bobs but called upon the services of Kents boys in blue and the ambulance service rather than start flashing stuff about myself. Went into work today but was sent home. Then went to hospital saw Doctor came out, walked into a tree re-attended hospital 20 seconds later with blood streaming down my face laughing my head off. Went into work today but was sent home. Waiting for event three 🙂

They dont do the collor any more, I have been told to exercise the neck and arm and take painkillers on a regular basis. Insurance company have sent personal injury claim form so this will be a first for me.

See elsewhere - went for a bit of an off road ride but on my commuting bike with high pressure slicks, a big rucksack and a healthy dose of whatever. Bit of a hill walk as well has left me feeling a little creaky this week though the aches should subside enough for the trip to York.

Oh no! Awful! If you are in the CTC get on to their bods as they will be acting with your interests paramount. Keep receipts for everything, and have your injuries recorded by a doc, so down the line, the insurance company cannot try to wriggle out of its responsibilities by minimising your injuries. Sorry if that sounds a bit paranoid - but personal experience of my husband and reading of others in similar circumstances having to deal with the post-being-hit-by-twunt-in-motor shows that you need to be prepared for the 'I'm very sorry, of course it was my fault' initial helpfulness swiftly turn to 'You fool cyclist, it's your own fault anyway and nothing to do with me' attitude... Be prepared.

Nasty. :-( Sorry to hear you're injured but just think how much worse it might have been. I understand the police are a very good employer to have when you're hurt so take your time and make sure you're well before you go back.
On the bright side there should be some cash coming your way eventually to finance that 'bent.
