Weird problems

It's not a "weird" problem, but it's definitely a problem, when my brother and his friends visit they use my husband and my bikes to get around, somehow it's always my bike that get's scratched, dropped, flat tires, fallen off chains - problems I never have when I use the bike.... I can't figure out if they are trashing my bike on purpose, or maybe they are too heavy for the bike?
I'll have to save up for a new bike and this one can be the "guest" bike - sigh

That's is a weird problem. letting someone use your bike! Nobody touches my bikes.

We ran into a guy a few years back. He rode with us for about 6 months. Later told me he was planning to move out of state. But first he wanted to do a big ride out of state (Ride Across Iowa ?) We're in California. He wanted to borrow my tandem. Uhhhh No! 😠

I have to say this is a fantastic picture and story and you're very lucky that your wife does this job for you. My dad had to pick me up once too lol, I had to wait for a couple of hours as well.

That sounds rough, there's nothing worse than your handlebars coming lose all of a sudden. The only recent issue that I've had is a squeaky-sounding back break which wasn't fitted on correctly. It wasn't anything serious and I got it sorted in about 3 minutes. Nothing a screwdriver can't handle.

Nothing weirder than a suddenly loosen chain roller, then you pedal and can't transmit utmost power to the drive wheel. I don't know how It happens, maybe I didn't properly oiled the chain roller or the crankset is not fit to the chain I'm using.

A long time ago my bike started to make a lot of weird noises by the back wheel zone, after a while it stopped and I didn't touch anything. I still don't know what happened.

The intermittent problems that come and go for no reason are the worst for me, but sometimes you have to accept that they do simply just work themselves out.

If I don't know what is specifically wrong, I won't go looking to find out what it is, but will just keep riding until I do know.

Many times that can be lack of oil, the strange thing is that the noises go away all alone. Might be some part out of the place too though.

Going for a morning ride on Treky (My Trek 1.1C), and not even 5 minutes into the ride, I noticed a huge flat on the back tire and that was pretty much it haha. That was the weirdest problem for me as I thought the tires would last a lot faster than minutes before going completely flat. Easy 20$ fix at the bike shop, I love their service.

That's the thing with tyres, there's no telling when they can go. I had to laugh at a friend of mine a few weeks ago. He lives next door to a carpenter, and one Sunday morning he was sweeping out his van, and he must have brushed a load of nails out on to the road. About 2 seconds before my friend rode past, haha!

I guess it isn't really a weird problem per se, but I had a bolt on the back wheel that was just impossible to loosen up. I had to use an impact driver to get it loose. I never had that problem with other bikes.

That sort of issue can happen on older bikes that have those bolts forever with rust and so on. Usually some oil helps to lose them up.

Well, like 10 years ago or so... a terrible noise was coming out of place where the wheel was. I wasn't able to find a solution for two weeks. In the end, I started riding again without giving a damn about being much noisy. And the noise disappeared magically. In like 10 minutes or so.

Yeah, maybe it was oil! But nowadays I always make sure to put some oil every week, or in every 2 weeks. Really makes a difference, you can feel the bicycle going way smoother.

Aswell as oil, WD40 works wonders for keeping parts lubricated so its always handy to have a can of that hanging around aswell.

I'm actually quite surprised that on this thread there are more cyclists than I thought that do their own repairs, or at least know how to.

It's something really basic that can make all the difference. I have also some noises in my bike and I need to put oil, but I always forget lol.

Yeah it's basic, but it's really worth it. Another thing that I like to check regularly it' the seat. When you use it a lot it starts to lose quality, and you don't notice, but when you get a new one, it's way better.

Yep, we just need stop being lazy. The issue is that I have my bike in a storage space that is packed and I have the oil at home, so I need to remind myself to take it there.

My strangest incident was several years ago when I was going on a first date with a guy I'd met who was a rider. We were on a bike trail and passing a lovely little river where a wild goose was swimming along. I had a camera with me so I wanted to stop and take a picture. I signaled him and he stopped uneventfully. I, however, did not. I rolled to a stop without incident, put my left foot down on the pavement, and then, for reasons unknown, just slowly fell over, skinning my knee. I have no idea why I couldn't stop that fall as it occurred more or less in slow motion, but that's what happened. At least I got my stupid picture. 🙄

lol, falling in slow motion is ridiculous, but it has happened to me. I was circling around a tree and hit my knee bad...
