That's pretty good! What's your bodyweight?
I compete at 67.5 kg in powerlifting and 70 kg in girevoy sport. I
usually am about 70 kg most mornings.
I took me a while to work up to bw + 100 lbs. a few years ago and I'm
a lot stronger now. I haven't trained weight chinups in years (just
been doing the HLR/PU combo w/ a 30lb dumbbell I've talked about and
not even that regularly). I imagine, if this is what I could get on
no training, I could improve on it by a noticeable amount with a bit
of work.
I was disappointed not to get the bw + 75 with a pullup grip but my
setup is weird - it's at bottom of a stairway and I can't get as wide
a grip as I'd like. I think, with enough room, I might do as well or
better with a PU grip.
That is extraordinary, especially at your BW. Well done, Steve. I'm
kinda surprised at the difference the grip makes for you though. I
never do CU grip though so maybe I should try that to see what kind of
difference I find.
Thanks but I don't think it's all that great. John Hanson posting on
the other thread and Jeff F. 'hint' are right that bodyweight should
matter here - John's suggestion of Wilkes Points or similar is right,
IMHO.
I think the grip is, as I said, somewhat of a function of the way my
pullup was is situated at the bottom of my stairs. I have a pullup bar
on my power rack but it's not high enough off the ground, it doesn't
have a step for me to get up on with weights, and it also flares down
pretty quickly - I prefer a straight bar, anyway.
Bodyweight on a belt seems like a number I'd call "extraordinary" - 1/2
to 2/3 bodyweight is what any reasonably strong person of my size should
be expected to do. At least at my size, I'd put a 2.5 x bodyweight DL
(my 1RM) and a 2/3 bw chinup (also what I've done) on about equal
footing. A 2.5 x bodyweight DL isn't shabby but neither is it anything
to write home about - I look at it as making me a powerlifter but not a
particularly good one. 🙂
