    "the Clavicula crank system has successfully completed all static load
    tests. To increase the safety margin even more we had to increase the weight
    of the whole system slightly to 420 g (0.9 lbs)"....

    read as: "During testing we snapped it into little bits - so we've had to
    make it a little stronger"

    Never trust a bike component that has a rider weight limit. Climbing gear has to have safe working loads marked on it, but it is usually upwards of 2,000 (lbs/kg?) which overall, seems fairly reasonable compared to some bike components which have a 75 kg (or thereabouts) limit!

    Climbing gear needs to take a much larger dynamic load, ie. if you fall on it your effective weight will be instantaneously multipled by the effect of gravity!

    Mittigated by the stretch in the rope - climbing rope ain't
    static 🙂

    A user weight limit makes more sense, a 2000 kg rope is designed for one 100kg person not 20x100kg people.

    Why not buy weight limited stuff (if you are under the limit), if you were a 45kg female do you need a set of cranks that are stroing enough (and heavy enough for a 125kg male, I think not).

    As to the UCI weight rule (which has a similar effect), I think it would make more sense in that space to work towards load/strain rules that need to be met.

    That said the flow down effect of the weight rule may be better/lighter/cheaper power sensors for all as they can be put on pro bikes within the weight limit.
